13 Legion
What products do you guys/gals use to clean the engine and bay area. PO had a broken oil gauge line that made a mess. Have used a little brake cleaner on it..but was looking for something else maybe better to use. I used to have an older car that i would pressure wash the engine(leaving it running) at the car wash. Worked well but I'm very skeptical bout trying that with my Lanche. Some of these pics you guys post looks as if these engines are on mile 1!! Incredible. Thanks...Now time to go shovel.....again!! :grrrr:
ParadiseMJ
Dawn dish soap, Simple Green or Purple Power, IMHO I think any one of them work better than anything petroleum based. I would do the carwash thing but the carwash people won't let us do that anymore...OUR local one...your results may vary. I just use one of these products and a garden hose...with a nozzle. Cover up your sensitive areas (TPS, distributor, MAP) etc.!
Jeep Driver
Gunk original for the tough or first clean. Go to Dollar General and get the cleaner call Awesome, $1 per bottle and there is none better. You can't even buy a squirt bottle for $1.
91Pioneer
I would not risk it by using a pressure washer. Use a good degreaser (I used Simple Green), then use a low pressure from your garden hose and a brush. Go to the dollar store, pick up a cheap brush for like cleaning dishes with a handle, it'll help you clean it and then you can toss it when you're done. High pressure washer can work but it's also alot easier to get water into places water isn't supposed to get into.
johnj92131
Costco sells a product called "Oil Eater", it is a degreaser that can be deluted with water. Spray it on the engine compartment at the coin operated car wash, then wash the engine down. Other than that, get your engine steam cleaned the first time. Then keep it clean. benjy_26
I buy purple power in the gallon jugs. I spray it on, scrape/brush the junk off, rinse, and repeat. I DO pressure wash my bay, but I tend to keep the spray around sensitive areas to a minimum.
tmaxx411
steam cleaning is usually regarded as the best. if you can't steam clean, then brake clean, hands down. before after it took me 13 cans of brake clean, and about 6-7 hours to get it that clean. i could keep working on it, but its good enough for something that will never be seen. benjy_26
Be careful with brake cleaner... it can eat into some plastics and rubber compositions.
