Change Odometer Reading On 91+??

Recommended Posts

I am putting a new spedometer in my 91 Comanche and want to match the old Odometer reading to the new odometer reading.  This is the electronic spedometer and it is not the same as the 90 and before odometer.

Remember seeing a post on here about how to change the later odometer readings.  But search is not working for me right now.  All I get is a message that there is a problem communicating with the database.  Hornbrod, think you also have seen the post.

When I was calibrating Jeep cluster gauges a few years ago, I tried several times to reset the 91 and up odometers and was never able to due to the tamper-proof cage surrounding them. I've never seen a writeup here or anywhere else on anyone doing this successfully except for speedo shops. It's doable but I wasn't smart enough to figure it out.

I've done many not hard just when you do get the odometer free spinning use drill not dremel its to fast will mess up gears! Do not try to remove odometer just Mitsubishi gear box to make the odometer free spinning then make a jig to position the odometer gear up against drill (I used some books and zip tie on trigger of drill LOL) takes awhile but I was able to roll back one from 290k to 150k in about 5.5 hours oh and guys the problem with removing odometer totally is that its tamper proof so when you do this the numbers will not line up so to avoid this just remove gearbox and use drill

I'm getting ready to put in a full gauge cluster in my 1992 but need to roll the new odometer forward, as in increase the miles. I wonder if there is a way to do this electronically. Is there any way to determine what voltage needs to be fed to the gauge cluster and how it should be fed to make the odometer increase milage.

Thanks for any suggestions.

The only way I know would be to use a function generator simulating the frequency and amplitude of the square wave generated by the speed sensor. Would be tough to do for the average tech. There may be other methods, but I don't know of any.
