wpnsdog Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 I am attempting to change the head gasket on my 88 Pioneer. It has a 2.5 in it w/ no ac. My question is, according to my Chiltons book I am supposed to remove the power steering pump bracket. It doesn't look like the bracket connects to the head, however the alternator bracket does. Do I need to move the alt bracket and the power steering pump bracket?
Jeep Driver Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 I believe my PS pump is bolted to the intake. That maybe why.
wpnsdog Posted January 27, 2014 Author Posted January 27, 2014 Mine appears to be hooked to intake. I wouldn't think that it would interfere with removing the head. The book doesn't say anything about the manifolds other than to disconnect them.
Strokermjcomanche Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 Well being the power steering is connected to the intake and the intake is connected to the head they probably want you to take the ps off so the intake disconnects easier . Just like you don't need to disconnect the positive battery cable to take the head off but u could cause a spark and catch the engine on fire
92tanMJ Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 I am NOT familair with the 4bangers as I have an I6...However, as said above if it is bolted to the intake you should just be able to pull it all out as one piece like so
wpnsdog Posted January 27, 2014 Author Posted January 27, 2014 In regards to the ps pump bracket: there is a bolt at the back of it, behind the pump. What is the easiest way to get to it. I tried a pivot adaptor for sockets, but did not seem to be getting a hold of the head.
