TheDirtyJeep401
The trim pieces for all of the windows have this plasti-dip coating on it that is peeling off in some spots. Underneath it is chrome and I want to take it off to reveal the chrome. I am not for sure if the plastic stuff is stock or not, but I want to remove it. I have tried a heat gun and it works somewhat. Anybody have ideas on how to remove it from the trim? Thanks!
onlyinajeep726
If you find out, let me know also! I have the exact same problem. Wonder if we could just burn it off or if that will mess up the chrome underneath...
TheDirtyJeep401
I will indeed, I can use the heat gun to get the majority off but it leaves this thin brown coat on it. You could probably scrape it off with a knife, but you would be risk scratching the chrome.
yxmj
On some newer aluminum mags the factory sprayed a clear coat (paint) over the aluminum to keep the shine.....only problem was if you cleaned it with an abrasive or it got scraped naturally it would "Fog" and look even worse. Once in order to bring life back to a set I soaked and wiped them down with acetone,,,,it dissolved and removed the coating......if you could try some in an inconspicuous area i feel it might dissolve or at least soften the coating so you can polish it off with an sos pad :dunno: *****protect your painr with some masking tape and plastic****
