Picked up and 88 and the interior needs help. One of the issues is a wobbly steering column. There is alot of vertical play and its not tilt adjustment.

Easy fix or look for a new one? Havent had a chance to get under the dash yet

If it isn't a tilt column, then there is no play "in" the steering column. Check the attachment of the column to the dashboard.

Its a tilt column, but the play is "after" tilt adjustment(closer to the firewall)

Not many possibilities on this one if you're 1000% sure it's not the tilt mechanism- it's either:

-2 big nuts which hold the column to the dash

-2 bolts which hold the column to the firewall

Take a look at them while you're trying to move the column. it'll take removing the knee panel to get to the nuts, and pulling back the carpet to see the firewall bolts. When you find the loose culprit, crank down the nut or bolt and you should be good to go. In fact, crank all four down just to be sure.

Let us know what the outcome is.
