shaved ice
Hello all. I inherited a 1992 Grey Comanche but I haven't even seen it yet. I pick it up at the end of the month. It was running a little over a year when my friend passed. His wife hasn't done anything with it since. I know I will have to flush out the old gas. She knows nothing really about the other specs. I am scouring this forum and the Internet looking for 1992 model specific info. Any info would help. I am anxious to get smart on my new truck. BTW. I am from Oklahoma and currently live in the Florida panhandle. I have owned a CJ5, 2 XJs, many pickups, and currently own a JKU..
87MJTIM
There is a wealth of knowledge on this forum. Just ask and you shall receive. Sorry you had to loose a friend to inherit the MJ. Once you pick up the Pick Up, let us know more about it: engine, trans, model/options, etc.
92tanMJ
Sorry about your friend man.But just fyi comanche's and cherokee's are very similar (similar, not the same) from the front doors forward so many of the things from an XJ will carry over to the MJ.Let us know if you have any specific questions once you get it. The only real difference is the 92 is it has an HO (high output) motor. And welcome to the forum!
Minuit
92 is considered by many to be the best year along with 91(there were no major changes between 91 and 92) There really isn't any debilitating issues specific to 92 but as with all MJs, check those floor pans. Post some more info and we'll help you out. There's a lot of very smart people here that can answer pretty close to any question you have!
shaved ice
So, it took a little longer to go get it than I would have liked. I pick it up today, finally. Pics tomorrow as it is dark already. The VIN is 1jtm36514ht073796. If there is someone out there who can run that a VIN decoder or tell me where one is, I would appreciate it. I do know it is a long bed, 4.0, new exhaust, lift, newer wrangler wheels, fresh tires, body and interior is rough but minimal rust. I am excited :)
Tactical Bacon
According to the VIN Decoders, that's a 1987 Jeep Comanche, Long Bed, 4.0 HO, 4x4, GVWR of 4001-5000 lbs (aka not Metric Ton), made in the Toledo, OH plant. Though I think you made a typo. The 5th digit of the VIN should be a letter. Since it's a 3 and E and 3 are on the same finger path on the keyboard, I'm going to assume you meant E which indicates a 3 speed auto, column shift, with part time 4WD. Though, it could also be R which is 4 speed auto, floor shift, selec-trac (had full time option) 4wd. W is ruled out due to it being for a 5 speed manual 2wd. shaved ice
Sorry about that, it was dark out after a very long couple of days. The correct VIN is 1JTML6514HT073796 Can someone please run that through a decoder? Thanks
Tactical Bacon
Since the L was the only digit that changed, the only thing that changes from what I said above is that it started life as a 5 speed manual floor shift truck with part time 4wd. The 10th digit is what tells us the year. If it was a 92, that would be an N.
shaved ice
Well now I am completely confused. The widow told me he had bought a 92 as it was the best/final year. She had to get the title notorized before sending it down, so I can confirm in a few days. Are their any other differences I can look for that might confirm the year? Thanks
Tactical Bacon
Check the driver side door. There should be a sticker on the side of it that has some stuff like the paint code, tire size and inflation numbers, and when the vehicle was manufactured (my 91 was produced 12/90, making it older than me haha). shaved ice
The sticker was half worn off and the date was illegible. However, I did see the telltale AMC logo. It is an '87. I am very happy with it. My wife thinks its ugly as hell which makes me like it even more. Pics coming soon.
