So Robyn and I are into repurposed and creative antique items. We've got a bunch of pieces in our house that either we created from stuff or we've found and couldn't live without. Well, one thing since we've moved into our house that has just bugged me was the only real location to keep the hard stuff was above the refrigerator. Sure, I can get up there, but it's a real stretch to get the bottles that are way back there! Kind of a hassle when you have to take out a step stool. We need a solution... what if I need to get those bottles that are way back there and I'm... uh... unable to navigate a step stool? In the spirit of convenience and drunken safety the decision was made that we need a new liquor location. Enter a liquor cabinet!

 

 

We found this at a local antique store. A week ago we also picked up some antique ceiling tiles from the same place that are overly conveniently sized to fit inside the door inserts when cut in half. The cabinet itself has seen better days so a full chemical strip and refinish is in order. Throw on a butcher block top and we're good to go.

 

 

... just love watching that stripper take it off!

Paint day. Went with kind of a berry red color and beat it up a little bit to show some high spots... some fo-tina, if you will.

 

 

Cut down a ceiling tile also. Needs to be fastened in yet but I'm diggin' it.

 

Also cut down and did a couple coats of poly on the counter top.

^ I think the outside hinges would add a more "complete" look with the ceiling tiles, just my $.02

Thanks, Don! Yup... reusing the original hinges, but I did take the finish off of them. They had kind of a neat little design in them that was just barely poking out through the caked on layers of paint. They got a new coat of hammered black to match the new handles going on it.

That cabinet looks great, Marcel! However in my case, anyone who really knows me knows that I really don't care for wood working. Give me a torch and a grinder and I'll build you anything you want, but when it comes to the stuff that grows in trees I'm really more of a if it HAS to be done I'll do it kind of guy.

Sorry, Pete but I really only modify things that I like. Don't much care for yard work so all I do is change the oil, sharpen the blades, and put gas in it. We'll see what happens next year when I start cleaning up the yard and making it how I want.

 

As for the liquor cabinet... it's done! I had some other work to take care of this morning but I still managed to throw a few hours at it. Then Robyn got home from work and then things really started happening!

We already moved everything over from the old cupboard above the refrigerator and guess what?... plenty more space than before!  :group beer:
