When changing tires on aluminum rims once before, they became scratched. Anyone have any advice or know of tire tools that won't damage aluminum when mounting/dismounting tires on aluminum rims? big66440 Posted July 11, 2013 Share Posted July 11, 2013 my mistake Id I didnt read it correctly,the tire shop should have a plastic insert that rides on the bead part of the wheel and it keeps the wheels from getting scratched,,,,I scratched a wheel on accident myself and thats how I found out about that "insert". I have a tire machine, but the dismounting part of it doesn't work, so bars are used to manually break beads and pull tires. I need a plastic coated bar or something. Thanks though for the info.
