snakedoc67 Posted June 11, 2013 Posted June 11, 2013 Was driving home on Sat and all the electrically driven gauges in my cluster froze at odd points. The tach is showing 1800, temp gauge is maxed out, ammeter does not register at all and the fuel gauge is frozen at 1/4 tank even after filling the tank. I checked the fuses and all of them were good. I will be doing Cruiser's dash ground upgrade in a day or two and wonder if there is a relay I should check as well. Other than that the only other thing I can think of trying is to unplug the cluster and plug it back in to see if that fixes it.
onlyinajeep726 Posted June 11, 2013 Posted June 11, 2013 Sounds like a ground issue to me... No relay controls those, especially one for all of those. Faulty grounds sounds like the culprit.
Biotex Posted June 11, 2013 Posted June 11, 2013 When a gauge such as the temp gauge and/or fuel gauge reads maxed out, isn't that an indication of a short to ground? Try unplugging the temp sender wire at the sending unit. See if the needle moves down. If not, then i'd suspect an issue with the cluster connection. True enough that a faulty ground wire can cause strange things, so as mentioned above, might refresh the instrument grounds, and clean connections.
snakedoc67 Posted October 26, 2013 Author Posted October 26, 2013 Actually got this fixed by going thru and replacing fuses that were missing or the wrong amps for the slot.
