't' Handle On Aw4 Shifter

Can somebody please tell me how to remove the 'T' handle on the AW4 shifter? According to the book it's a press fit and should pull off. Well, I pulled on it and after pulling the Trans, with engine and transfer case still attached up thru the floorboard I decided that wasn't going to get it. I hate to go through the trouble of making up an adapter to use a Porta Power on it. Anybody? :hmm:

Push button and pull like crazy. Keep your face away from your hand.

Sit in the middle area, push button, pull up with your back (like arch backwards wile pulling) [edit: you can also use your legs to push wile pulling lol] and it will pop off

I find it's easiest to do if the shifter is in the 1-2 range so you're pulling back on it.

Jim, here are a couple of pictures of a shifter I recently received in the mail. Knowing what is hidden might help you out.

To avoid falling backwards or hitting yourself in the face, just push the button in with one hand and tap upward on the handle with a rubber mallet. Just takes a couple of light taps.
