Relocate Winch Control Box

Who all has relocated their winch control box and to where?  what did you need?

 

I would like to have the box under the hood somewhere, and have in Cab controls while still being able to use the factory winch remote in the front.

 

I have a smittybilt XRC8 winch

I have a 20 ft cable on my remote which enables me to sit in the cab or where ever outside. If you want inside cab control, just open up the winch control box and wire a set of wires parallel with your remote cable, running them thru the engine compartment and firewall into the cab.

I have a nice long cable that reaches into the cab, i just am too lazy to hook it up..  looks like i am on the right track as far as hooking everything up, just wanted to make sure

we're doing just that on my buddy's Ford.  swapping the long wires for the short ones (and buying a couple more long ones) and will be mounting the control box near the battery.  that's the plan anyway.  Haven't actually done it yet.  still waiting on final welding of the new bumper so we have a place to put the winch.

Should be able to just lengthen the cables and move the box.

 

My box is under the hood down in front of the crank pulley and I have a wireless remote in the cab. I can operate the winch from anywhere within about 100'.
