MJ_Milam Posted March 26, 2013 Share Posted March 26, 2013 so I'm looking to upgrade my front shocks and have been leaning towards the RX300's from rusty's. I've been trying to find an honest opinion about these shocks but it seems like where ever I look (i.e jeep forum) it just a thread full of people chiming in to bash Rustys products. I tend to ignore them because I've purchased items from them before and customer service was always great. answered any fitment questions etc. that I've had. I know they are rebuildable which is a plus. By the way, I too have experienced excellent customer service from the Southern U.S. family owned and operated business. i also read that Tenneco manufactures all the parts for rusty's shocks and they're assembled in-house at Rusty's. I was doing some research last night on them. I think I'm just going to pick them up because $150 for a rebuildable shock is pretty reasonable. I just ask because I haven't talked to anyone who has run them and was curious. I think I'll just do a review after I install and run them. I really don't have any doubts that they'll be as poor as people say. I guess I'm more curious as to why people bash their products as much as I've read on other forums. I put a 4" lift on my WJ and fought driveline vibs, bump steer, and death wobble for months. I had at least 4 alignments and tire balances done. Rebuilt my 30k mile drive shafts and had them balanced. I also installed a transfer case drop. Nothing would cure the vibes or DW. The Jeep was also scary to drive at highway speeds. It would wonder all over the road. I removed the lift and traded it for a XJ. The guy that got it had the same problems. It turned out to be a bad track bar and the rear LCAs were the wrong length. I called them numerous times and talked the Rusty himself. It was always the same answer. I installed something wrong. I later bought a BDS lift and had zero problems right out of the box. It is buyer beware with them. The reviews are legit. You have been warned. Rusty's ranks right up there with Rocky Road Outfitters. I had the same issues with Glenn and his company. I would choose any other vendor over them. well that lift for the WJ is adustable in the front so adding about 3 degrees of positive caster will eliminate that. and why would you put a transfer case drop kit in? it may decrease your rear driveshaft angle but increases the front. again, I'm not trying to start a thread to bash rusty's, I'm running the rusty's cross over steering and adjustable track bar and have zero complaints. Thhe thread is about the RX300 shocks and asking if anyone has run them just to ask their opinion and if they worked well for them or not. I know nothing about the rx300, but I do know some about shocks.. rebuildable ones.. fox, sway-away, king, kuster and so on.... if it is a rebuildable shock, it should be revalveable... so as long as it doesn't leak oil not sure how they could be a bad shock for that money.. onlyinajeep726 Posted May 1, 2013 Share Posted May 1, 2013 I have a Rusty's 3" XJ lift kit (got about 4" of lift with coil spacers and extended shackles) and haven't had any problems with it. Serving me well. Also got some extended stainless steel braided brake lines. My only complaint with Rusty's is their shipping rates are ridiculous, but then again, most company's rates are too. :soap box: I'm a firm believer that shipping rates should not be based on a product's cost. I haven't priced the rebuild kits, and they came charged with nitrogen from rusty's. I already flipped the clamps around and yes i welded brackets on the top and bottom.
