Biotex
I'm thinking Maura needs a roof rack. I knew one of my buddies had a cargo box that fits inside the back of a TJ and it was stored up in the attic. I asked him if it was for sell, and he just gave it to me. This is almost identical to what it looks like. I think it's a Kilby. So i'm wondering if I purchase some clips to mount it to the roof, would the shape look goofy? HOrnbrod
It might. Why not just lay it up there in position and post a pic or two?
Biotex
It might. Why not just lay it up there in position and post a pic or two? Yeah, that's the plan once I get home. I'm thinking of getting the JCRoffroad roof clip mounts, but don't want to order them unless i'm sure it will look ok. Perhaps I can mount some light in the indented area to make it flow more if you know what I mean... i'm not sure if i'd want to leave the rack on all the time, just when going camping most likely. Goose
Best idea for a roof rack I've seen yet.
86FUBAR
If it were me I would find some lights that fit in the notched corners and face them either towards the front or back , it would make it look less out of place and more custom ! You could get some rectangle flood lights and place them evenly in the corner void and face them towards the back . I think thats what I would do . Eagle
So i'm wondering if I purchase some clips to mount it to the roof, would the shape look goofy? I think it will look just fine. I don't think you'll have much luck finding light small enough to fit the corner notches, but I don't thank that will matter at all. I'm interested in what you find for mounts, because I'm planning to make something similar (probably a very short version of a Garvin Wilderness Rack) and my big question is what to use for mounting hardware. I was thinking of these: http://www.jcroffroad.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Category_Code=RCK I'll weld them to the rack.

Eagle
I was thinking of these: http://www.jcroffroa...tegory_Code=RCK I'll weld them to the rack. How do they work? I see gutter clamps, but I don't see any way to attach them to a rack. The angle looks wrong for welding, and if you weld them the measurement for width has to be exactly correct. Doesn't look like a good choice to me.
Biotex
I'm calling the cargo box a rack as in roof rack. Probably a confusing choice of words. I will lengthen , shorten, or otherwise modify them so that they will support the roof cargo box as necessary. Attaching them is the easy part for me. Deciding if it looks good is not so! MtnClimber
Yakima or Thule gutter mounts/feet with the load bars for an XJ work perfectly. I've tried
