That is normal as the front axle is vacuum disconnect at the passenger side. This allows the drive shaft to freely rotate while not engaged in four wheel drive.

OK cause I've got a rotating clunking grinding sound when I'm at stoplights and after i drive and park and idle and no one I've tried to explain that to can give me an answer to what it could be and when in 4 wheel drive the steering gets super jerky to the point the tires screech when I'm turning can anyone tell me if this is one big fix or abunch of costly little things

Is that turning on pavement?

Only thing rotating at stops is engine and trans input shaft or torque converter. Do you have a manual or auto trans?

1 - front driveshaft is supposed to spin freely when in 2wd. Front axle shaft is disconnected, front yoke on transfer case is disconnected, so there is nothing there to stop it from doing that.

2 - 4wd IS NOT FOR USE ON DRY PAVEMENT. You noticed it binds the driveline in turns. This is a good way to break an axle shaft, drive shaft or transfer case. It is for mud, snow or deep gravel only.

If you can hear the sound when sitting at a stop light, there is nothing turning from the transmission on back, just the engine and what's connected directly to the cranks shaft which would be a torque converter or a clutch depending on transmission. As cruiser asked, what transmission?

Pull your inspection cover and make sure all 4 TC bolts are tight. I had 2 loosen up on me once, and had a metallic noise from them rubbing on the inspection plate.

That's my guess. When I got Sparkles it was clanking. Turned out all 4 had come loose.

I wouldn't leave this stone unturned for sure. Until this is addressed, all bets are off.
