Moon Wheel Covers

1988 Comanche Base. OK, I'm going for a drag strip utility vehicle look on my Comanche. I would like to replace the round "Jeep" wheel covers that slip over the lug nuts with the 60s style "Moon Eyes" hubcap look. Has anyone ever done this or does anyone know why it can't be done? Thanks

Can't be done with the stock Jeep wheels because there are no retainers to hold the moon caps in place.

You could always swap your wheels out with some 15" 70's-80's Ford steel wheels. I know baby moons will fit on them. The bolt pattern is the same and B/S is real close.

I did this on my 99 new beetle with 66 bug moons. I actually measured the ID of the hub caps and drilled holes in my factory steel wheels for the clips and then riveted the clips in, help great untill I started doing a fair bit of front end work and the clips got wore out and started to rust from the snow/salt.

On the early Jeep moon hubcaps, the size changed slightly when AMC took over in '71/72 and the moons will not interchange between eras. Be sure to check the hubcaps you want to use with the wheel before buying.
