86customanche
Any ideas for mounting the rear plate and light for that plate on the rear bumper? I have a nates4x4 bumper, so there are not any mounting places. Id like to not drill into the bumper.

Automan2164
Receiver with a piece of plate welded on to attach the plate to. Drill and install some plate lights, and wire them to whatever trailer connector you use. Put a lock on the pin. When in use, slide it in, hook the connector up for running lights for the plate, and away you go. When you have to tow, you plate is blocked anyway. Remove it, and put the hitch on. 86customanche
I like that idea but I don't have a plug for a trailer. Havent really messed with any electrical on the truck yet, don't like that crap.
sinkrun
I did what rod said no big deal to find the original plate light wires they are under there. I bought 1/4 20 powdered coated license plate bolts with led lights built into the bolt made a really clean install. I ran the wires thru the receiver tube and used connectors I can plug and unplug when needing to remove the plate to tow. When towing the whole thing sits in the back window fine wedge it against the seat. I can get pics if you want.

86customanche
Those are pretty nice but wouldnt you have to drill into the bumper to mount? I was hoping to avoid that. And Mike, have they been a problem with the Po-pos? It looks like they arent the brighest.
86customanche
And I just notice that those lights have a nut to tighten on the backside, well I don't have any way of getting to the thread once it's in the bumper. Its square tubing. hmmmm :hmm:
Backdraft
I haven't had any problems with the cops as far as brightness goes. If it were me doing it, I'd do what Rob suggested and build a mount that slides into the receiver. Then wire it to the existing plate light plugs. sinkrun
Pics of mine I made it all steel used the locking type pin so no one would steel my plate and mount. Never had any trouble with the law however I don't drive at night much and it is quite brite. It sits well behind my headrest in the back window when towing. 86customanche
Just ordered 2 of the black coated ones. I think I'm going to go with something like sinkrun's. Just gotta find the steel for it now.
sinkrun
When you do build it or buy one just make sure the tailgate will open and lay flat without hitting top of the plate as my tubing is not centered on the plate. I could make or get the steel for one here if you want pm me.
86customanche
Yea Ive thought of that for both directions. It was always let it hang down under the bumper and bend the plate on the ground or above the bumper and not be able to open the tailgate. A friend of mine might have some tubing that will work but he won't be home for about a week so this project is on hold for now. Thanks for all the input.
