This is the same truck that is my profile pic. We didnt get it back to running until about a week ago, and had a whole heap of problems to fix. To give a few specs it is a 82 j-10 with a custom gladiator front clip conversion. Mildly built sbc, votec heads, 650 eldlebrock carb, electric choke, super hot billet dizzy, properly gapped cheap'O spark plugs, headers, 100% true dual exhaust, 3in ran just under the bed, 4in "tips" 45* at the ground, Turbo 400 Tranny, smooth as butter. 3.55 gears out back in a ford 9in. Quarter shifter, hurst, on the floor. 33x12.50 BFG MTs, Old as hell but in perfect condition.

This is just a small taste of what it can really do, it really starts showing its teeth at 3,000 rpm. From there on up, its a freakin rocket ship. :chillin:

More, betterer videos in the next few days.

the only problem we can't figure out, is after you romp on the gas it spits and sputters. Sometimes it even stalls if you romp real hard and let out real fast. But it idles great, oh and it seems harder to start when warm, but cold it fires up in not even half a turn.

Throw a rebuild kit on the Eldlebrock, if no help, junk it and swap in a dual feed Holley 650.

Carb is brand spanking new, and i tried to convince my brother to go with a Holley but he doesnt trust them to be as bombproof/reliable as the edlebrock.

I think your misunderstanding, it doesnt matter how sharp you stab it, the throttle response is superb, without the slightest hesitation, its when you let off, if your not half way gentle it sputters and sometimes dies.

Ex. making a U turn via power slide, when you go from on the throttle to completely off it cuts out. :dunno:

Tomorrow i will get good pictures and more video. I can't use my video camera cause its still old school tape. My still camera takes video, but the sound/picture quality is sh*t.

Had quite a few SBCs in various machines back in the day and tried various carbs. The Edelbrocks for me were super finicky to set up, especially in regards to float level settings under varying conditions, like acceleration and long g turns. The Holly double pumpers were easier to set the floats due to the float bowl plugs and you could adjust them while running, unlike the Edelbrocks. I liked to set the fuel float level just above the plug hole as it worked better for all conditions, but on a cold engine of course. Once you got them right on both sides, they were super reliable and stayed that way. But it's like everything else, everyone has different opinions based on what worked best for them. I never could get a 327 to run tolerable under all conditions with an Edelbrock.

Too early to consider just the carb - - - Been a while since I campaigned H hot rod, Some what I recall. . . .

So, 650cfm - What cid? - Vac/Mech second'ry carb? Single/dual plane manifold? - vac/mech dist?

Starting - sounds like a learning the carb thing - could be, repeat-COULD be, vapor lock thing but not likely and NOT worth starting the hypo-I knew a guy stuff - most likely the e choke being a little much - - - Almost have to be harder warm if same cold start technique applied - one pump-two pump-no pump-wifes pump/crank til HFO type -

Edelbrock made intakes back in my early, no carbs & I'm not familiar with'em - Holley's were it then - Still so IMO if you're gonna/wanna/enjoy the tinker/tune thing - - The fuel level adjust on most makes them a no brainer for me - Same for jet access - - Just about as many Holley parts/adapters/mods/whatever as stars inna universe - everywhere - online/o'autovance/walMart/Quiktrip - Ditto for Holley & SBC engine info - - Libraries full of it printed & online - - Healthy % of it PURE BS too - - Obvis a read, reread & consider - - -Anyway:

Getting on it - - Sounds like starving - accel pump thing - - could be time/dist also

Letting off - - - Vac metering valve? - - time/dist thing?

RPM - - - Gets with it 3000rpm on? Expected perform for cam? Cam specs? Jetting - rich til airflow catches up?

Good luck - - Keep it coming - Seems 2b lots of experenc'd hot rodders on CC

I hardly understood a thing you wrote, but thanks anyway. :dunce:

On a side note, i took my mom on her first drive and wouldnt you know it, we ran out of gas. Truck as no fuel gauge or odometer to go by. It had 8gallons in the tank, but after two days of romping and a running temp of 175 i guess it just sucked it down. Needless to say, mom was doing a lot of this

CARB is a four barrel, INTAKE is single plane, DIZZY is vacuum advance w/ cam gear, CAM itself is a general purpose/nothing special cam.

Well . . . . . the learning curve for your truck may take a while before it starts to shrink with only vague info/understanding about the engine components - - Anyway, IMO Single plane manifold + cam is biggest part of trucks 3K+ performance & unlikely 2B causing your probs - Jegs explains IMs basics as well as anyone - All kinds of ideas for SBC & what makes 'em go - - - http://www.jegs.com/... Manifold Guide
