jimoshel
I know Explorer makes a good candidate for axle swap but how about a 1988 Bronco? I know nothing about them except that they're Fords. Also that they were based on the Ford F150. If it were closer I'd get it just for scrap but it's 90 miles away. It's 4WD. No engine. SEARCH was of no help.
86FUBAR
I don't know much about them neither but if its the full size bronco then the bolt pattern will be the larger 5x5.5 and they will be full width aswell so the WMS to WMS will be to wide. Pete M
and the front axle is their weird IFS design.
jamespwsullivan
I don't have all of the data, but i think that the axles out of a 1977 and earlier Bronco are close to the correct width. One common set up was the Ford 9" rear and a Dana 44 front.
Pete M
small broncos (76 and earlier) have less width, but the 44s are low pinion and have small ujoints, and the 9 inch has a lesser splined shaft.
Zebvance
the front axle on that model is called a TTB axle. I like to think of it as a scissor axle haha. It has a pivot point in the middle and is a Pain in the @$$ to work on, it is far from a bolt on for you.... I would say it is not worth time, and next to impossible to make the swap. you would need to make a radius arm set up and make a center axle mount under the engine. which to me would seem next to impossible with mj unibody.... Comanchemodder
I have a Ford 9" out of an 81 bronco. It's 65 wms-2-wms. I am still contemplating if I will swap.
Pete M
matching it up front can be challenging...
Comanchemodder
Yes, I fear 65 inches is much too wide. Unless a miracle happens which drops a Bronco D44 HP in my lap which matches the width. Otherwise I may consider narrowing it if I can do it cheap enough.
Pete M
don't forget to change up the bolt pattern when you order the custom shafts.
