Shoot i went outside today and decided to wash the jeep since it was a mess after the last storm and flash floods i was out playing in.

can't believe what was under all that dirt and grime... i had 31x10.50s the whole time...

:hmm:

:rotfl2: hehe. I brought it up 2 inches in front and 3 in back with some spacers and some super shackles. :)

My buddy had these black wheels and 31 procomps and said.... chuck em on and lets see how it looks.

I like it alot, but the truck is so long.. i think it needs 33s and 4 more inches of lift to look proper.. :brows:

It will get there, in due time. Starting to gather bits as i go.

thanks to all the great info and helpful folks on here, I'm gathering stuff fast.

Got the D44. Getting SOA kit next. Then 4.5 springs. Then control arm kit. Then shocks and lines. adj track bar :) THEN a thrashfest will ensue.

Of course after the 4.10s go in the d44, and i grab a non disco 30 with 4.10s in it already from junk yards online. ;)

:wrench:

oh yeah and...SYE kit, winch, bumpers with sliders front and rear, sliders for the sides....does it ever end?

4.10 and 33" suck, atleast over here with city driving and a 60 mph speed limit. i know you guys have alot more fun speed limits but maybe toss around the idea of 4.56 or 4.88

really? what rpm were you running at 60?

I was running 2100 ish rpm at 70 mph with the dinky 215s and this lame 3.07. Truck pulled it no problem. Id run 80 most of the time and be 22-2300 rpm.

Ill see what rpm I'm at now with the 31s and still 3.07s.

So 2 inch more tire than now, and a whole point off the gears and its gonna be no good?

I still want to run 70-80 as i drive on long road trips a lot.

Theoretically, going from 215/75R15 tires with 3.07 gears and want the final drive ratio the same with 33" tires you'd need a 3.66 gear ratio in your axles. So even with 4.10 you're already overshooting and will be running higher rpm at the same speed. Your speedometer will also read faster than you're actually going by about 12%.

So with the 4.10 gears and 33" tires if you go 80, the speedometer will read about 90. If you ran 2300 rpm at 80, with the new set up you'll be pushing 2600.

with 4.56 you'd run almost 2900 rpm with the speedometer reading just under 100, with 4.88 you'd be close to 3100 rpm with the speedometer a tad over 105. Except doesn't the speedometer end at 85?

I find with Renix engines the sweet spot for mileage seems to be ~2100 rpm, for the HO it's a bit higher, closer to ~2300. Running faster speeds at the same rpm because of tires, gearing or combination it that would drop some because of increased wind and rolling resistance.

The 4.10 gears overshooting the tires will make up for the increased rotating mass of the larger tires and increased weight of the 4wd conversion when it comes to acceleration and seat of the pants performance.

When I has my XJ with 3.07 gears I found 1st gear almost useless. Even making a sharp right turn from a dead stop, like a stop sign I'd have to shift to second halfway through the turn already. 4.88 gears with 33" tires it would be like a granny low for getting a 5K trailer rolling up a 20% grade.

Yeah mvusse thats what i was thinking. If i can get 2500 rpm at 80, thatd be great. Just a tad more rpm than i run now will compensate for a bit more rolling stock and i can get decent mileage.

of course its not gonna pull like 1st gear when its in 5th with 33s going 60 mph, but thats why i have a shifter and 5 speeds.

Pull 4th and step on it and it takes off like a rocket.

i see that you have a manual so gearing is different. with the AW4 and meteric 33" and 4.88 I'm close to 2200-2300 rpm going 60, it defintaly winds up when I'm around 70 mph, but its not a race car and doesnt really need to go much faster for the driving i do. now when i went thru nevada in the car it was on cruise at 90 because there is just nothing out there :D checkout http://www.grimmjeeper.com/gears.html for some gearing/rpm charts. awfully close to real world numbers with my experince

I washed my Jeep once. It was so shocked by the experience I couldn't get it to run for a week.
