shaking at idle but good on takeoff

hey guys i got an 87 mj 2.5l 2wd and my issue is that my truck idles a lil rough(ive heard worse) but not too bad but it still makes me wonder what it is. but as soon as i give it gas (even in neutral) it no longer shakes and vibrates nearly as bad. Any suggestions?

One of the cylinders is missing, time for a tune up: new distributor cap, rotor, plug wires and plugs.

Check for vacuum leaks using throttle body cleaner. Good chance the intake manifold is loosening up and that the vacuum hoses around the throttle body are cracked.

 

BTW, ever clean your throttle body?

 

And, verifying good tuneup parts, as stated above, is never a bad idea.

my 86 2.5 idles hella rough and ive changed plugs wires and checked all vacuum lines...think i should check the intake manifold?

My manifold gets loose from time to time and dose the same thing... But with this whistle that you can't hear from inside the cab. So every time I turn heads driving by I check that bolt.

Surprised. Nobody has said anything about checking motor mounts.

Or spraying along and around all the intake stuff with carb cleaner to check for vacuum leaks. Uhum....
