bottomline89 Posted August 30, 2012 Posted August 30, 2012 Just got my hands on a 96 cherokee. it's got a chrysler 8.25 rear axle and either an ax5 or an ax15 transmission. This is going to be my 4x4 donor for my 2wd 89 manche. Any comments? What issues am i going to run into ? i know i'm going to have to make my rear axle an soa to make it work in the cherokee because i want the cherokee to run so i can resell it.. and i know i'm going to have to get my driveshafts done. anything else? or any hard parts that you've run into doing a 4x4 conversion? thanks in advance
Bounty Hunter Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 It's an ax15 if its behind the 4.0L engine.
TylerJY Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 You're going to have to move the spring perches inwards(?) When you weld them soa.
bottomline89 Posted August 31, 2012 Author Posted August 31, 2012 Does that mean I have to move the perches outward when I go from the Cherokee to my comanche?
bottomline89 Posted August 31, 2012 Author Posted August 31, 2012 It's an ax15 if its behind the 4.0L engine. Yay :jump:
NotMatt Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 Should be a pretty straightforward swap, even with keeping the XJ running and driving after... That is assuming your truck has a 2wd AX-15 in it now, and not the Peugot. Also, the 96 will have an external slave cylinder for the clutch compared to your internal one, so you may have to swap over the lines and/or the Clutch master as well.
