88whitemanche
Hey guys I had bought a new fuel tank and wondered if I got the wrong tank? Or a different fuel sending unit? I bought a 18gallon tank but a little label on my fuel sending unit shows it's a 23.5gallon tank.... But the one I bought was an exact match to the old rusted one... By the way I have. 88 4cyl 2.5 4x4 Thanks any help is useful
relyt120
long bed uses bigger tank so that information is required to determine if you have the correct tank.
jimoshel
I believe the difference in volume is made up in the tank length. Not it's depth. So the 3 sending units, 16, 18 and 23 will swap.
relyt120
don't some of them have a different length floater arm? :dunno:
mvusse
Yes, but I have never found any sort of correlation between the floater arm length and tank volume.
88whitemanche
Lol that was my next question...I mean I have a short bed and maybe the po had swapped the fuel sending unit from a long bed to a short bed...but aren't long bed sending units positioned differently that the short bed tanks? drcomanche
Well, first thing is first. You at least have the correct tank to mount up to your truck. There are plenty of occasions where people switch out the sender unit, but I haven't seen a difference in them. Did the fuel gauge accurately reflect the fuel level before you decided to replace the tank?
jimoshel
A couple years ago I swapped the fuel pump assembly from a '89 LB. 23 gal to a '87 SB 16 gal. Works OK.Gauge reads right on.
