my86mj
so i am planning on getting rid of my bench seat. its not tore up or anything. its practically perfect but i just don't benches. I'm planning on throwing some summit plastic poly seats in there with one of those padded covers to match the truck. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/RCI-8020S/ my question is if i get the bucket seat brackets out of my parts cherokee will they mount up to the already prefitted holes for the bench seat? the seatbelts and everything arent an issue because I'm planning on a 4 point harness in the future. but will it be easy street swapping out the seat brackets or shoud i do something else. any suggestions? kawaboy13
Is it a 2 or 4 door Cherokee?
my86mj
4 door
Rymanrph
Seat brackets are Comanche specific. You can drill out the welds on the mounts that are on your bench now, but the brackets from the Cherokee won't work.
FrankTheDog
Have you ever sat in those type of seats for any length of time? They suck. Convert your bench brackets or buy a set of bucket brackets and put a stock type seat in. Unless you're going to destroy the truck mudbogging, then go ahead the crappy seats. ParadiseMJ
I used my MJ bench brackets on 2 door XJ seats...I had to drill out the holes on the seats and reattach them to the XJ seats with machine screws and nuts...very easy, about an hour I had buckets. Â Warning: don't even try using the buckets with the curved sliders unless you're a midget. They set about 2-3 inches higher which doesn't sound like much but if you're anywhere near 6" tall your head will hit the roof (personal experience). Â I would not go with the funky aftermarket "racing seats" but that's just my personal preference...I like to be comfy.

my86mj
well i swapped in some 4dr cherokee buckets with the curved brackets and whatnot i sit kind of close to the roof but have a good 2 1/2 inches headroom. I'm 6'1" so it not a big problem. a buddy of mine is hooking me up with some 2 door buckets so my problem is solved

MiNi Beast
any of these threads have perhaps a couple of pics to help with the understanding of the tech for this desirable swap?
