MJRemi
Driving home today in the 87 and noticed a new vibration. If the clutch was engaged or if the shifter was in neutral, the shifter would vibrate quite a bit. There was no vibration when in gear. Since I had the pleasure of driving several miles in 1st and 2nd gear in lovely San Diego traffic, this new quirk was adding to my joy with each passing minute. What should I check to rectify this, and I'm referring to the vibration, not living and working in a sardine can.
Alexia
I had similar issues when the transmission mount tore.(The engine mounts were found to be shot as well.) It was allowing the vibrations of the 4.0 at idle to be very well noticed. Hop under there and check it out. Putting a jack under the transmission and lifting a bit will let you see if the rubber separates. Also, if the rubber is spongy or soft to the touch it is time to replace it. MJRemi
I do mean disengaged, sorry. My transmission mount is only a year old. I bought it new when I found the AX15. I will double check it though since I had the tranny swapped from the 88 I sold. I think the motor mounts are OE so that may be the source as well. Looks like another weekend spent in the garage. :D
