Yes, an F-18 from NAS Oceana. Thank God there were no serious injuries to the crew or any civilians on the ground. That's the same aircraft (USAF version) my daughter is trying to get when she gets commissioned next month.

I didn't realize the Air Force flew the F/A 18, I thought only the Navy and Marine corp flew them in the US.

My mistake (if it don't float, they all look the same to me). I meant the F-15E Strike Eagle.

The 18 and 15 do look pretty similar. Good luck to your daughter getting in the F-15 program.

Thanks. She's already been interviewed, tested, and accepted as an F-15 back-seater (Weapon Systems Officer) and is planning to start at Pensacola NAS for joint training with the Navy in June/July. Unfortunately her eyesight is right at the lower limit, but she's been assured she will receive a waiver, it's been done before. We're all pulling for her; she's worked hard for it.

It was a miracle, their fuel tanks must have been close to empty.

SOP in case of imminent crash. Dump the fuel. Fuel was seen being dumped before the crash.
Again a miracle considering a split second can mean a collision where the crew must choose between ejecting or dumping their fuel, they got both accomplished.

American military is the most highly trained military in the world. Possible exception some of the Israeli special forces. The crew probably practiced that maneuver a couple hundred times in the trainer. The second an emergency was detected that training kicked in.

:agree: And to add to that, the F-18 crew members were USN trained. The best of the best.

Definitely don't agree with that.

Don. I hope you didn't think I was implying that the Israeli's were better than the American's because I wasn't. I meant that their training was on a par with American. I had the privilege of working with a couple of Shayetet troops in Nam in 69-70 along with the 1st Marine Division. They were there to observe a weapons system we were testing. Also I was somewhat honored and surprised when they purchased 12 of the units and specifically asked for me for their 'tech rep' and I wound up working in the Sinai with them for a year. Also when working with the 5th Special Forces out of Ft Bragg they specifically stated their respect for the Shayetet 13, but then they should. They're the ones that trained them. I have never worked with the Navy Seals so I have no personnel experience with them but I do believe they are the most highly trained special unit forces in the world. Ain't got a thing to do with MJ. So how did we get on this? :dunno:

Ya I figured you must have been up close and personal with some Israeli troops to make a comment like that Jim. But just think where they would be it were not for our weapons, ships, tanks, aircraft, $$, and, most importantly, training?
