SW86
okay so I'm about to weld in the "new" 8.25 spring over. ive got it axle shafts out right now but i know you need to have the weight of the truck on it to set the correct angle at ride height. so should i just leave the wheels and shafts on/in when i tack it in then take them off/out when i finish it up or does it matter? i know ill have to drain the gear oil either way and take it slow with the welding. I'm thinking it doesnt matter if they are on/in the whole time but just wanted to be sure
Pete M
just do it in little one inch trips and spread your efforts around so no point gets very hot. no need to drain anything or remove anything.

Blue XJ
Thats how I did mine, put a really big tack in each of the 4 corners of the spring perch, carefully drove it to make sure there where no vibes, then burned them in solid on inside and out of the perch. carnuck
I put my axle on axle stands (on flat ground) with a windup jack under the pinion then used a level under the old pads until the bubble was centered, then put the new pads on top the correct distance apart and welded them on. Old AC buzz box.
