welding in spring over

Recommended Posts

okay so I'm about to weld in the "new" 8.25 spring over. ive got it axle shafts out right now but i know you need to have the weight of the truck on it to set the correct angle at ride height. so should i just leave the wheels and shafts on/in when i tack it in then take them off/out when i finish it up or does it matter? i know ill have to drain the gear oil either way and take it slow with the welding. I'm thinking it doesnt matter if they are on/in the whole time but just wanted to be sure

Thats how I did mine, put a really big tack in each of the 4 corners of the spring perch, carefully drove it to make sure there where no vibes, then burned them in solid on inside and out of the perch.

I put my axle on axle stands (on flat ground) with a windup jack under the pinion then used a level under the old pads until the bubble was centered, then put the new pads on top the correct distance apart and welded them on. Old AC buzz box.
