Bought myself a Jeep for Xmas:

So apart from the banged up front and the missing stereo [and the rash of stickers], what's wrong with it?

Nothing else that I know of. But I haven't seen it yet.

I guess I know the radiator is bad, the serpentine belt is off so the PS pump pulley is probably trashed(shattered plastic), electric cooling fan will be junk too, AC cond might be bad. etc etc But thats all front end stuff.

So other than front end stuff I dunno what else it might need.

Gonna quit selling stuff in Pueblo and go to Denver. Just sold a fella a 98 XJ sport for $800. He got in it and drove it home, probably listening to the stereo on the way.

Jeezus. Jim, PM me the next time you have something like that! :D Seriously.

Sam, that's a helluva good deal considering you bought that from the auction. That's gotta be an all time low price in the past couple of years at that place for a decent XJ...... nice score!

There was a left recovery 00 with 131 and good title that sold for $1500 later today, I had a max proxy bid at $1500 but it looks like the guy on the floor bought it instead at $1500. Oh well.

I'm going down to klode tomorrow, so I think I may drop your door panels off at the same time.

Doesn't look like it'll take much to get that back to a good, sell-able state. Tires also look like they've got a lot of meat left on them. Only downside I see is the mileage. That is roughly the same mileage on my '01XJ and it's beginning to show its age - loose steering, loose suspension and random creaks and rattles throughout the interior. Basically need to replace every ball joint and tie rod on the front end, replace control arm bushings, and change out the shocks. Hopefully a lot of that stuff has already been done on the one you just picked up.

Also, you could probably swap in a stock airbox and sell the K&N FIPK to some idiot for a good chunk of change.

Ya the miles is the downside, but it wouldn't have been so cheap with fewer miles on it.

Hopefully its not just worn the hell out, but if I don't need to replace it I won't.

I'll probably leave the K&N on to try and use it as a selling perk. Plus its just easier that way, otherwise I have to find a stock airbox, switch it out, and try to find someone to sell it too.

The tires look like they have tread on em, but from the photos it looks like less than 50%, still they ought to be decent tires.

Medium fern green pearlcoat. The 97+ XJs had a couple of nice color options. I was always partial to their "blues," particularly the patriot blue and the gunmetal blue.

Ive had a Gun Metal and a Patriot Blue XJ at one time. (Acutally at the same time  )

Thanks for the response to my :hijack:

I'm a fan of Patriot Blue, Flame Red, Chili Pepper Red, Gunmetal, Black, Medium Fern Green Pearlcoat now!

I currently have a '99 Gunmetal Blue, but it was used as a 97+ donor for one of my MJ projects:

Had a '99 Chilli Pepper Red. Probably the nicest XJ I've owned, but sold it to my GF's little sister and she later totaled it:

Currently rock a '01 Silverstone Metallic. Nice color and easy to keep clean:

Silverstars!

I have an MJ with a set of Silverstars on it. One of these days I'll snap a pic of the MJ, XJ, and ZJ and it will be a Silverstar overload.

My MJ has silverstars on the front, at one point I had my XJ, the KJ with silverstars, and my buddies Jeep with silverstars at my house. Plus the dozen or so silverstars I have hiding in my backyard, and I have quite a few.

I always want more, I just wish I had more money to drop on them. Need to stockpile them for the coming zombie apocalypse.

  • 3 weeks later...

So this FINALLY showed up yesterday, went to the store to get some groceries at like 2pm, saw Danny the tow driver about a mile away from my house and I went "Hmmm, I wonder if there is gonna be a Jeep sitting in my driveway. I didn't get a call and they know they are supposed to call before dropping it off so I know its coming" Sure enough(and luckily) there it was sitting there in my driveway.

Now I can finally get started on it! Looks like it was a really nice jeep before whoever owned it last got it. It's got an aftermarket sunroof(which works thank gawd), has some sort of alarm(which I guess I just need to rip out since I have no remote or anything to go with it and I managed to lock myself out once already when trying to get power to it.

No battery at all, which is only slightly worse than having one that needs to be replaced. Tires are like almost new, that fuggin rocks, in the pictures the lighting made me think they might be down to something like 40% tread, but they are actually really new, wheels are also in really good shape, no need to repaint those.

It's got a K&N intake, a TB spacer, hood spacers(to clear the K&N and TB spacer. Unfortuneatly its got a cosmetic crinkle down by the airbox, with a stock airbox I don't think you would ever see it, but with this K&N is clear as day......so I might grab a stock airbox just so thats less obvious.

Otherwise the enterior is fuggin gross, yet another smokers car, ashes everywhere and but only a few cig burns. Gonna need a helluva cleaning, but it should come mostly clean.

It looks like someone locked themselves out at once point, and used something like a tire iron to pry the drivers door open to slip in a coathanger........so theres a bunch of ugly marks around the drivers door that I won't really be able to do anything about. Dumbass! When its something the driver sees all the time it will kinda bug you, but if they had done it on the passenger side you wouldn't really see it much, meaning it won't bother you much.

Got the inner fender pulled...enough that its better, it aint perfect but fuggit, the Jeep has 190k miles on it. Got the new PS pump on along with a new serpentine belt and thermostat, new E-fan on and even a mechanical fan shroud!

All bolted down and good to go, now I only need to testfit and adjust the header, then shoot a little paint on it and the "repair" is done. Still need to do my outside detailing, and the rather arduous task of getting the interior cleaned up, I think I'm going to have about twice the time detailing the inside as I do in getting the outside done.

Drove it around in the culdesac a little bit today and it feels fine, still need a battery for it though. Does have really good tires which really ought to help it sell, tires sure do suck to have to deal with on a flip vehicle.

Man, an easy fix even.

I really don't like you.

:D

Man its about time I caught a break, I only did two jeeps between thanksgiving '10 and july 4 of last year, didn't make more than $1600 between the two and it took me forever to do them. I've now finally caught a couple of breaks and I'm starting to recover.

Plus, I lost nearly 3 weeks just waiting for delivery on this one, I could have had the vehicle done and possibly sold in that sort of timeframe.
