Any good locksmith can make a key. Either remove the lock cylinder and take it to one or take the truck to one and have him work in the parking. Might want to call a couple and compare prices.

On the 87s (and 88s and 89s and 90s) the ignition key is a 6-bit key and the door keys are 5-bit keys. It is not possible to make a key that will operate the ignition and the doors. Those years were two-key years and there's no easy way around it. If you remove the door cylinders and take them to a locksmith, he can easily make new keys to work those locks, but they won't be the same as the ignition key.

If your going threw the trouble to take out the key cylinder then you might as well get another set from a junk yard of a cherokee, its going to be cheaper with a touch more labor but worth it. I did mine last week, I took the lock cylinders from a 96 cherokee and put them in my 89 MJ (make sure you get a jeep with the keys in it). Nothing wrong with have two keys for my MJ now I can finally lock it.

When I first got mine I was planning on having to get a new door key made since it didn't come with one. :fs2: Then I found a hide-a-key under the bumper.

To get the code, you pop the lock loose on the passenger's side (pull the clip holding it in) tip it out and write down the code, then put it right back. Doesn't take long.
