JeepinSteve
Hey everyone, I'm new to Comanche Club and I've never done a build thread before but I think it would be fun to share what I am up to with my comanche as I build it where I want it. It seems like I have a hard time finding a build thread with the dream truck exactly how I would do it so I want to see what you guys think as it develops into the truck I picture in my head. Keep in mind this is my daily driver with weekend trips to the mountains here in Colorado. So a couple weeks ago I picked up a 1988 Comanche with a short bed, 4.0 Motor, 5 speed manual tranny, with 4x4 drivetrain. In my opinion that's the perfect setup (and seems to be the hardest to find) I paid $2400 cash for it and it came with the Comanche Club logo in the back window already! I will be posting new updates as I go along but I work full time and go to school full time as well so there is little time in my day to work on anything else. Most of the work done will be done on the weekend. Unfortunately the earliest pictures I have of it are of the day after I got it so I already did the initial deep clean and installed my Moab wheels on it. Lets just say it was dirty. Anyways, here's the build! 1988 Jeep Comanche by StephenGilmer 1988 Jeep Comanche by StephenGilmer, on Flickr 1988 Jeep Comanche by StephenGilmer, on Flickr 1988 Jeep Comanche by StephenGilmer, on Flickr 1988 Jeep Comanche by StephenGilmer, on Flickr

Dadinator
So, what are the plans?
JeepinSteve
In the near future I plan on putting an SOA kit in the rear with lifted coils in the front to end up somewhere around 5" of lift. I am currently looking for a donor '97-01 cherokee for front end and interior swap. I found some gray 2008 Wrangler JK bucket seats on craigslist that are I am currently fabricating brackets for. I have the driver's side done and hopefully finishing up the passenger side tonight after my final exam before winter break. I'll post some pics of that this evening. I want to be able to stuff 33" BFG Km2's without cutting up the near perfect bed. Also looking to find a ARB front bumper with a 8,000lb winch. That's the near future. We will see where to go from there. 1988 Jeep Comanche by StephenGilmer, on Flickr $180 on Craigs. Install photos tomorrow

yellaheep
Congrats on snagging that clean little MJ! I know I've met and sold parts to the previous owner of that MJ.......... at least I'm pretty sure it's the same one. Used to have a topper on it IIRC. Trying to remember if his name was Arvin Martensen or if he was a friend of Arvin's........ Either way, nice to see it's being appreciated! JeepinSteve
Alright guys, it's been a while... a lot has changed! I decided to dump the JK seat idea: Try as I might, I never could quite, get the passenger seat to fit. Jeep Comanche by StephenGilmer, on Flickr I built brackets using both the comanche bench seat bases and XJ sliding brackets with the mounts for the XJ seats I picked up from the junk yard. They were in good shape but were dirty. I shampooed them the night I got them and installed them. I picked up door panels that matched the next day from another junk yard. ($80 for seats and $40 for door panels) Jeep Comanche by StephenGilmer, on Flickr Jeep Comanche by StephenGilmer, on Flickr Jeep Comanche by StephenGilmer, on Flickr Jeep Comanche by StephenGilmer, on Flickr Jeep Comanche by StephenGilmer, on Flickr I installed new pioneer speakers all around ($90) I removed the sagging blue headliner and put replaced it with grey Microsuede material. I had some left over so I put some on the blue plastic cover that goes below the back window. ($53 for 2.5 yards of Microsuede headliner material from Keystone bros) I used "3M Heavy Duty Trim Adhesive" for the adhesive Jeep Comanche by StephenGilmer, on Flickr Jeep Comanche by StephenGilmer, on Flickr I removed the poor quality window tint I dyed the blue plastic panels that surround the door interior gray. ($6 per bottle x 2) I got an alignment with the employee discount that my buddy Leelend hooks me up with ($24) I got a complete gray center console at the junk yard ($30) Jeep Comanche by StephenGilmer, on Flickr Jeep Comanche by StephenGilmer, on Flickr Took it to get emission tested. Passed with flying colors after getting a new gas cap ($25 + $12 for gas cap) Jeep Comanche by StephenGilmer, on Flickr More to come...
86customanche
Looks good so far. Very clean MJ don't see em like that much
JeepinSteve
So, I had an extra set of JK wheels laying around and I thought I would see what it looks like on the Comanche. I am pretty undecided. If they stay on there will obviously be a pretty beefy set of mudders or similar rubber that I'll put on. What do you guys think of the rims?? 87Chief
If those are 17's, they look too big for the comanche IMO...
Exxon Valdez Jeep
I think those are the Sahara wheels, which makes them 18s. Looks kinda goofy as is but might be better with larger tires, but those larger tires are $$$$$ for 18s!
89Comanche4x4
Yeah I like first rims you had better! What did you do with the bench seat?
JeepinSteve
I have to agree. The 18"s are coming off tomorrow. My wife and I took it downtown for dinner tonight and when I turned left it would rub the crap out of the fender. Yeah I like first rims you had better! What did you do with the bench seat? The bench seat is for sale on craigslist right now: http://denver.craigslist.org/pts/2859864135.html
89Comanche4x4
I'd buy! But I think shipping would be expensive
JeepinSteve
If you live near a Fastenal I could ship it to you relatively cheap actually..
JeepinSteve
Hey guys, this pains me to do, but due to some unforeseen circumstances, I must sell the Comanche. I have had a bill come up that is very very expensive and I need to sell the Comanche to pay it. If anyone is interested I have my post on Craigslist and I'll post another post in classifieds... http://denver.craigslist.org/cto/2910024577.html Thanks guys. It's been fun Steve
