4 wheel drive cable and bed cutting question

I'm in the process of having my old trans/transfer case swaped out, old was a ba10 i believe and the new is an ax15, the mechanic said that i would lose the vacuum for the 4 wheel drive and suggested a cable take its place, i think its the posi-loc cable, anyone done this? what does it look like all installed? and how does it work? I'm guessing after swapping it out the floor shifter is pretty much useless.

 

also, i have a long bed and i was thinking about chopping it some time down the road, the thing is that i would have the bed chopped to bring the tailgate closer and keep the tailgate, my question is how involved does it get? i assume i would have to cut the frame off also, would that mean finding another way to attach the rear leafs? would i run into any other snags? i think the gas tank is far enough up to not worry about, I'm just thinking about departure angle problems that i may have in the future.

I can't be much of help on this... Can someone explain the CAD thing to him?

You want to bob the bed.

Here's a linky on how to do it on a Yota, and it's practically the same thing for a Comanche, but you'll need to reinforce the rear crossmember.

You cut the out a section of the bed, and cut off the frame behind the shackle hanger, so there's no issue with the leaf springs.

Just swap in a solid passenger side axle shaft. As for the bed chopping..... everyone knows beds are overrated :nanner: Search the build section and you will see some tasteful ways of shortening your bed with out going full truggy.... I say chop it, tube it, wheel it.... then rebuild it :driving:

it has nothing to do with the t-case. early comanche's used a vacuum disconnect front axle. look under the front end, and you'll see a housing on passenger side axle tube with the vac line going to it. posi-lock is a cable that attaches to the shift fork in the axle to operate it manually. you'll just need a place in the cab to operate it, so either a hole in the firewall or in the floor. right by the t-case lever might be a good place, but i'm not sure how flexible the cable is.
