Need a favor, pictures or video please.

Recommended Posts

I need a few pictures or video of the shift selector on the transfer case for the 242J. I have an aftermarket shift cable and don't have a clue where the stops are supposed to be. If someone could post a few pics of their setup when in 2hi, 4wd full time, 4wd part-time neutral and Low gear.

This would help me tremendously.

Thanks in advance!!

I don't have any pics of the shifter on the case but here's what I got.

Curious why not. Are you aware of a bad experience with this

product?: http://www.novak-adapt.com/catalog/shifters/sk2xc.htm

I also have one, but haven't installed it yet. It's my winter project after

hunt season is over, along with the 231 to 242 swap and bell housing

swap.

The instructions describe how to adjust for correct position, but I would

also suggest marking the current positions for each stop (scribe a fine line

somewhere) and then using that as a guide to set up the cable shift.

I think this is a well-built item, but only time will tell how it holds up. It

seems much simpler than the convoluted linkage.

No personal experience, just would be iffy about using a cable for something that needs to push and pull. There's nothing inside the T-case that would move the shift plate back to 2wd when you're done with 4wd.

Not saying it won't work, was just curious if that was what the cable was actually for.

Understand the hesitance, as most all other cables are pull only. This

one is fairly stout, and reacts against the two (also stout) brackets. I

guess the the return (push) operation will depend in part on how smoothly

the internals operate, and whether they're loaded or unloaded at the time

of shift. My changeover is scheduled for March '12, and I'll make some

images and notes when I do it. It's reversible if it doesn't work out well.

the positions of the stock lever are pointing towards the front first 2wd, 4wd part time, 4wd full, neutral, and 4wd low with the lever pointing more towards the rear. you should be able to feel it shift into position. however i think the cable kit's new lever arm will reverse it, because the lever is being moved from the bottom to the top.

Well we messed with it and the cable seems too short to attach for 2wd. We managed to get it into 2wd to drive around but the linkage is too short to connect. I may have to cut some threads off to attach it but I will have to see if the cable has enough throw to engage 4wd low. I will take some pics to show when I get back to work on it.
