Project - "Rusty Skellington"

Recommended Posts

This Jeep is named, in loving memory of, "Rusty Skellington"

Hello from Sweden!

I might as well start a project thread even though it might take a while before I have time to work on it again.

The Jeep is a -88 (I think) and has so far been modified, by previous owner, with bigger exhaust tip, rustholes aaaand nothing else.

The plan as it is today points towards this:

Facelift to -97 cherokee

Dodge Durango -99? Magnum v8 with automatic and nv242

2 steering unimog 404's with 37" Cooper STT

Shortened frame behind cab, with homemade bed.

F/R 1-link suspension with complete underside skidplates

Exo-cage

Here it is as it sits today:

This is a portion of my inspiration. This one sits on 42's though

Got a donor vehicle for the -97 upgrade:

Plan is to cut the comanche cab in half and replace it with the newer half.

First I removed some parts:

cut it in half:

Removed some bits that might be useful at some point

...and the the rest went to the scrapyard

So this is where I´m at right now. The engine is sitting in my workshop since an earlier abandoned project and the tires will be bought in December.

What I´m saving up for right now is the axles.

I am currently building an apartment in a barn, but when that´s finished. I will start work on the cabswitch.

Okay. Project is slowly being started again.

First off, per request, the apartment. Since it´s offtopic I´m only giving you links to the images.

A couple of weeks into the build(April 2010):

When my family bought the place this loft had floor over everything you see in the picture. The floor was place in two levels with about 4 inches between them. Highest to lowest points (whole area) was 8 inches. The whole area ofr the build is about 12x6 meters.

This is today, bathroom not shown:

Its not finished, but almost. We moved in just before new years eve.

So to the manche. Not very much have happened since last, but at least it´s now started.

Rusty had been sitting out back for almost a year, so little help from mogwai was needed:

First thing I did was loosening the bed and temporarily fastened the tank, so I can move him around a bit longer.

During some problemsolving, I discovered someone had earlier been messing around. Some people shouldn´t be alowed to open the hood at all. It was much worse around the fuse block. Even more relays and tons of splicing.

When I messed around under the bed I got curious as to what this metal rod is for. Anyone know?

Fell off when I took off the bed anyway.

Bed off

Donor vehicle found a new resting place as well.

Tires are moved up to May/June for various reasons.

There will be no cabswitch, can´t justify it, I´m going to practice my repairing skills instead. Hopefully that will be started in just over a week.

Until next time...

Cheers Daniel

Thanks for the pics of your place, looks great! As for the Comanche you could source another wire harness for the engine bay if it's too far gone.

It really isn´t a problem since I'm doing the 5.2 swap, but it bugs me to hell. Why can´t people just do it right or leave it alone...

Metal bar looks like the spare tire holder. Too rusted to really tell!

Looks nice out in the country there. Especially with all the Jeeps. :D

Sounds about right.

Yeah it´s really nice and quiet out here. Half a mile to the nearest neighbour, but only 5 miles to the center of a medium size swedish city.

After checking around alot I´ve decided that I will ssettle for j20 axles instead of mogs. More parts availability and better gearing alternatives.

With mogs the engine would be doing 4500rpm at highway speeds, and I won't have a tow rig within the nearest five years...
