Oil Light flickers when in Drive, but while stopped @ light

Title says it all. I am not low on oil, but my idiot light flickers (dimly, sometimes more full stregnth) when I come to a stop while truck is in drive.

 

It DOES NOT do it while idling in either Park or Neutral.

 

Anyone ever heard of this??? Any help appreciated.....

Just sounds like the OPS is going bad. Either pick one up from parts store and throw it in, or find someone with a mechanical OP guage to check it for sure.

Yea...the sensor is the first suspect, but with an older vehicle, it is always good to have the pressure checked to be sure. IF it's a 4.0L, you can often have a new set of bearings (rods & mains) put in it and it will increase the pressure if is a bit low.

yea i bet it's the sending unit also, i had one do that and i checked it with a mechanical guage and the pressure was normal, got a new sending unit and it worked. simple and easy fix.

I had this happen in an old big block Chevelle. The sump coming off the oil pump was the culprit. In park or sitting still, or even accelerating it was fine as soon as I stepped on the brake the oil pressure would drop.

 

I doubt that's what it is on yours but hearing about your story reminded me of mine.

Mine has fine pressure, but my guage doesn't show anything when driving around town. If I go wheeling through deep water & mud it works again until it dries out.

 

I just think my jeep is happy to go wheeling & works better to try to get me to go again soon...
