Anyone interested in going in on a parts truck with me???
Comanche Joe replied to Comanche Joe's topic in The Pub
I just realized this is a shortbox. I need a longbox... I still want the window and AC, maybe some other accessories... I am going to check out the truck on monday. -
Here she is: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayI ... 999&rd=1,1 She's in NJ, about 10 miles from me. Looks to be in pretty good shape. He's asking $625, with no bids yet. I'm thinking $400-$500 is a fair price. What I need: Bed, rear window, full A/C system. I would be willing to work out some shipping for stuff. The fenders, doors, tailgate engine, tranny, interior all seem to be in good shape. Please PM me if you are interested. Thanks! Joe

Headlights just go out...
Comanche Joe replied to Comanche Joe's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I figured that.... is it an easy fix? or do i have to replace the column??? -
Ok, so 1 thing went wrong last night.... I noticed that when I have my hi-beams on for a little while, the headlights will just turn off. They only go off for a few secs, or if I turn them off then back on with the switch. Pitch black in snow on I85 is a scary freggin thing.... Low beams are no problem. Anyone heard of this? Or is it safe to say I just have a short somewhere???

So after having my new toy for about 6 months, and all I have done is cosmetic work, I am deciding to finally lift her. I want to do it the "el cheapo" way at first. Now before all of you die hards roll your eyes at me (which you have every right to do!) please read on... First things first. I only paid $300 for her ('87 LWB 4x4 6cyl Auto), so i'm not sure i'm ready to dump a ton of money into it. Now, let me explain why exactly I want to raise her. I am not an off road enthusiast. Well, not yet at least. Only reason I got my beloved Comanche is because i wanted a pickup to cart my street bike around in, and I found this one on craigslist. I wasnt even looking for a Comanche, but i'm sure glad I did! Anyway, since I am not an off roader, there is only a few reasons I want to go higher. I would like to run at least 33" tires. I live in the northeast, and I think this would be ideal for snowy conditions (even though it only happens a few times a year), and I would like to take it out on the beach. The other reason is looks. I know its a stupid reason, but cmon guys, I'm sure you all agree how much nicer these beautys look with larger tires!!! I drive the truck just around town, or on the parkway / turnpike for distances no longer than 100 miles at a time. I'd like to think she can make a trip to NC, but I havent tested it yet. So what do you guys suggest? I don't know much about lift kits, but I have been looking into doing a SOA setup for the rear. What could I do for the front??? I'd like to know the most inexpensive way to raise it while still keeping it safe for driving on the highway. Any input is appreciated!!! Thanks in advance, Joe PS> anyone gettin rid of any 33"+ tires????

Differences between 90 & 92 Comanches
Comanche Joe replied to SomeNew Name's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
<~~~~~ Just figured out what IIRC means... LOL  -
Even tho I have posted a couple of times, I have never formally introduced myself. My name is Joe T from NJ and as of recently I am a first time Comanche (or any Jeep for that matter) owner!!! The Good. 1987 Jeep Comanche longbed 4x4. I6, Auto. 139K miles. Paid $300 (he wanted $600). Starts and runs very strong, tranny is smooth as silk. Plenty of power sounds great. New exhaust, brakes (incl rotors), shocks, steering dampner, and all "Death Wobble" repairs have been made. The Bad. Rear main is leaking, but at a managable rate. I have decided not to fix it unless it gets worse, or if I find someone to do it for a couple hundred as I have decided not to tackle it myself. Ton of rust, including floorboards. (PO used a piece of sheetmetal on drivers side, but no welds or screws! It's just sitting beneath the carpet) Good news is that the rust on the body seems to be mostly surface right now, except for a few spots (see pics) The only reason I have this truck is that I was looking for a beater, just for normal runs to home depot, or just your ordinary homeowner weekend bull$h!t. I wasn't partial to any make or model. I found everything from a '78 F-150 to a '91 Nissan Hardbody. The Manche was the first one I looked at, and when I drove her I knew it was the one. Now I have to be honest, I wasn't planning on doing anything to this truck. Just try to fix the rust to make it more presentable. But after finding this site, you guys have me wanting to throw on a 5" lift and a set of 33's!!! (As a single guy and a car enthusiast, this might actually happen!) Seriously tho, this site is great and so are it's users. I had no idea that there was a subculture of people with these trucks. I am glad to be a part of it! I have decided to take on the rust first. I spent some time yesterday scraping off the bubbling paint from around the rust areas, then hitting those spots with some 60 & 100 grit sandpaper. This week I am going to use some naval jelly and rust preventer paint, and some fiberglass to patch up the holes. When all is done, I am going to get some cans of sand color (think US military color, and yes, i said CANS) paint and spray her down. I am excited to hear any comments or suggestions.... You all will be hearing alot from me! Joe T '87 Comanche

I have searched the forums and havent found an answer to this... My ebrake actually works, kinda. When i push it down with my foot, it tightens the back brakes (engages), but the ebrake pedal won't stay down. As soon as I remove my foot, it comes right back up. Is this a common problem? I just registered the truck today, and I am going to take it for inspection next week. It will fail for the ebrake problem for sure. Any feedback is appreciated.... Joe
