  1. Now I know trailer hitches are impossible to find for a LWB but lets say I come across one... Would it be possible for me to tow the '87 Searay 23' Weekender i just bought??? (I don't want to have to borrow someone else's truck) Thanks...
  2. I just realized this is a shortbox. I need a longbox... I still want the window and AC, maybe some other accessories... I am going to check out the truck on monday.
  3. Here she is: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayI ... 999&rd=1,1 She's in NJ, about 10 miles from me. Looks to be in pretty good shape. He's asking $625, with no bids yet. I'm thinking $400-$500 is a fair price. What I need: Bed, rear window, full A/C system. I would be willing to work out some shipping for stuff. The fenders, doors, tailgate engine, tranny, interior all seem to be in good shape. Please PM me if you are interested. Thanks! Joe
  4. \ so you used synth and then went back to conv???
  5. This isnt even my auction... lol I see guys on here all the time looking for tailgates... This one seems to be decent, under $30 shipped, and nobody wants it??? I kinda wish I needed one.... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayI ... 313&rd=1,1 Hope someone on here gets it... Joe
  6. And also where to get them??? I know a local boneyard may be the answer, but I was just wondering if there were any other options... What was your cost associated with this update??? Joe
  7. I figured that.... is it an easy fix? or do i have to replace the column???
  8. Ok, so 1 thing went wrong last night.... I noticed that when I have my hi-beams on for a little while, the headlights will just turn off. They only go off for a few secs, or if I turn them off then back on with the switch. Pitch black in snow on I85 is a scary freggin thing.... Low beams are no problem. Anyone heard of this? Or is it safe to say I just have a short somewhere???
  9. well, i made it!!! 9hrs, 15mins.... not bad from jersey... espically with stopping for food, filling up 3 times, and driving thru a nasty snowstorm in VA!!! BTW, took 95 to 85 to 77.... i'm more familar with that route now, time for SLEEP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  10. Toyo all terrains... I kno I kno, Toyo....I'm actually not a big fan, but I mean at $10 I can't go wrong

  13. yeah i sometimes go down 95 and cut over at richmond.... I'm gonna try 81 this time...let's see what happens.... anything i should look into before i leave??? i'm gonna top off all fluids and change oil & fuel filter.... i've never drove her more than 90 mins at a time since i got her, and she hasnt been driven in a few months.....
  14. I hope she makes it... I'll be leaving NJ tomorrow night heading down to Charlotte... 95 south to 66 west thru VA, then 81 south to 77 straight into Charlotte... Fellow MJ'ers state your location on the map incase I run into trouble!!! Wish me luck... Comanche Joe
  15. <~~~ moron good job Joe.... way to pay attention.... You guys think maybe I should look at the thread a few rows down????
  16. So after having my new toy for about 6 months, and all I have done is cosmetic work, I am deciding to finally lift her. I want to do it the "el cheapo" way at first. Now before all of you die hards roll your eyes at me (which you have every right to do!) please read on... First things first. I only paid $300 for her ('87 LWB 4x4 6cyl Auto), so i'm not sure i'm ready to dump a ton of money into it. Now, let me explain why exactly I want to raise her. I am not an off road enthusiast. Well, not yet at least. Only reason I got my beloved Comanche is because i wanted a pickup to cart my street bike around in, and I found this one on craigslist. I wasnt even looking for a Comanche, but i'm sure glad I did! Anyway, since I am not an off roader, there is only a few reasons I want to go higher. I would like to run at least 33" tires. I live in the northeast, and I think this would be ideal for snowy conditions (even though it only happens a few times a year), and I would like to take it out on the beach. The other reason is looks. I know its a stupid reason, but cmon guys, I'm sure you all agree how much nicer these beautys look with larger tires!!! I drive the truck just around town, or on the parkway / turnpike for distances no longer than 100 miles at a time. I'd like to think she can make a trip to NC, but I havent tested it yet. So what do you guys suggest? I don't know much about lift kits, but I have been looking into doing a SOA setup for the rear. What could I do for the front??? I'd like to know the most inexpensive way to raise it while still keeping it safe for driving on the highway. Any input is appreciated!!! Thanks in advance, Joe PS> anyone gettin rid of any 33"+ tires????
  17. Title says it all. I am not low on oil, but my idiot light flickers (dimly, sometimes more full stregnth) when I come to a stop while truck is in drive. It DOES NOT do it while idling in either Park or Neutral. Anyone ever heard of this??? Any help appreciated..... Thx in advance,
  18. <~~~~~ Just figured out what IIRC means... LOL
  19. No, no full gauges. I guess between that and the opening rear window are some options i'd like to have.... Under the bedliner is ok. Already checked. Nothing wrong with the steering wheel, I just had that cover laying around. Thx for the replies!
  20. Even tho I have posted a couple of times, I have never formally introduced myself. My name is Joe T from NJ and as of recently I am a first time Comanche (or any Jeep for that matter) owner!!! The Good. 1987 Jeep Comanche longbed 4x4. I6, Auto. 139K miles. Paid $300 (he wanted $600). Starts and runs very strong, tranny is smooth as silk. Plenty of power sounds great. New exhaust, brakes (incl rotors), shocks, steering dampner, and all "Death Wobble" repairs have been made. The Bad. Rear main is leaking, but at a managable rate. I have decided not to fix it unless it gets worse, or if I find someone to do it for a couple hundred as I have decided not to tackle it myself. Ton of rust, including floorboards. (PO used a piece of sheetmetal on drivers side, but no welds or screws! It's just sitting beneath the carpet) Good news is that the rust on the body seems to be mostly surface right now, except for a few spots (see pics) The only reason I have this truck is that I was looking for a beater, just for normal runs to home depot, or just your ordinary homeowner weekend bull$h!t. I wasn't partial to any make or model. I found everything from a '78 F-150 to a '91 Nissan Hardbody. The Manche was the first one I looked at, and when I drove her I knew it was the one. Now I have to be honest, I wasn't planning on doing anything to this truck. Just try to fix the rust to make it more presentable. But after finding this site, you guys have me wanting to throw on a 5" lift and a set of 33's!!! (As a single guy and a car enthusiast, this might actually happen!) Seriously tho, this site is great and so are it's users. I had no idea that there was a subculture of people with these trucks. I am glad to be a part of it! I have decided to take on the rust first. I spent some time yesterday scraping off the bubbling paint from around the rust areas, then hitting those spots with some 60 & 100 grit sandpaper. This week I am going to use some naval jelly and rust preventer paint, and some fiberglass to patch up the holes. When all is done, I am going to get some cans of sand color (think US military color, and yes, i said CANS) paint and spray her down. I am excited to hear any comments or suggestions.... You all will be hearing alot from me! Joe T '87 Comanche
  21. I have searched the forums and havent found an answer to this... My ebrake actually works, kinda. When i push it down with my foot, it tightens the back brakes (engages), but the ebrake pedal won't stay down. As soon as I remove my foot, it comes right back up. Is this a common problem? I just registered the truck today, and I am going to take it for inspection next week. It will fail for the ebrake problem for sure. Any feedback is appreciated.... Joe
  22. what about wheels off a 99 wrangler? i know they will bolt up, but is offest a problem?? thanks
