Kenbob Posted June 4, 2011 Posted June 4, 2011 I bought my first comanche in Jan. 1989 4.0 5 spd Pukgut air, tilt, cd player, full gages, 189000 mi, everything works and there is no rust. I mean no rust, I even pulled the carpet where there was just a little surface rusting which I fixed. Those folks in Joplin are hurting and am thinking of donating it to the cause down there. I think I may have overpaid for it at 1500, considering I had to replace the windshield at 350 bucks. I cannot find a value guide going back that far. Considering all the cleaning repainting, and fixing of little items, I was thinking of declaring a value of about 2000 for it for IRS purposes, which would be what I have in it after 6 mo of ownership.. I would appreciate any comments if you guys think that is reasonable.....I posted pics when I joined the club.

A declared value of $2500 - $3000 seems very reasonable to me providing it is in rust free condition. I would add $1000 if it were 4wd.
buxmj Posted June 4, 2011 Posted June 4, 2011 I would try to sell it then donate the money. I would think the trucks more needed there are the big ones. As for price, I would think you could get 2k from what the condition is. I am going to be in KC next week and was trying to figure out if I could get down there for a day and help.
ride172 Posted June 4, 2011 Posted June 4, 2011 Keep the mj, drive it to joplin and give a homeless person a couple hundred bucks. If you donate to a big charity you never where the money goes.
Kenbob Posted June 4, 2011 Author Posted June 4, 2011 Thanks for the comments. In this case I questioned the outfit and they said if it was in good enough shape to pass MO inspection it would go to a person and not be auctioned. I will ponder
Automan2164 Posted June 4, 2011 Posted June 4, 2011 Yeah, but whom would it go to? Someone who would greatly appreciate the gift? Or someone who never had a car to begin with and is only using the tragedy to mooch free stuff? If it were me, and I wanted to give that bad, I would drive there, find a family that was hard up, and tell them you have me and my truck for a week. I will help in anyway I can. Rob
dasbulliwagen Posted June 4, 2011 Posted June 4, 2011 NADA giudes has classic car pricing, but they don't seem to be in touch with the real world when it comes to pricing. here's a link. http://www.nadaguides.com/Classic-Cars/ ... kup/Values
jimoshel Posted June 4, 2011 Posted June 4, 2011 One way to set a price. In 1979 I wrecked my '65 GTO convertable. Insurance was offering me $950 and I keep the car. My claim that it was a classic and a collector fell on deaf ears. I went to the local Chevy dealer, the Big A auto parts store owner and the NAPA store manager. I got a written offer for $3000 for the car from all 3 of them. The insurance paid. It was a small town where every body knew everybody. Something to think about.
