Bought an 89 Comanche and the mirrors suck to say the least. It has the OEM type mounted to the door itself. Anyone converted to to forward newer style? Any previous write-ups would be greatly appreciated. I used the search function and couldn't find much.

If I'm reading this right, you have the big ugly tow style mirrors that bolt to the door. Is this correct? Do you just want to switch to the reg smaller mirrors? or do you want to switch to the newer 97+ style?

If you are talking about the "flag style" mirrors (small & door mounted) then the window corner style will be a nice upgrade. You can grab mirrors off any XJ Cherokee at a junkyard but the manual ones with a toggle are the easiest to install but they are harder to find. Most XJs came with electric mirrors. When dismantling the mirrors from the parts car, remember to loosen the tiny Allen Screw that holds the toggle assembly to the interior plastic moulding. There is some general instruction on mirrors in the Haynes manuals.

I changed mine over too. was easy. found a pair at a yard for $5 each. took about 15 mins or so to install. now I got ugly holes in the doors. can't wait til body time

I have the same issue, mine had trailer mirrors that the PO replaced with sport mirrors which I then replaced with XJ mirrors so I have holes from two different mirrors to deal with.

Not concerned with the 97 up style just looking to replace the crappy door mounted ones. I am a lot more savvy with motorcycles, so any install tips would be appreciated. I assume I can just bondo and paint the holes left behind??? Doing this build for my son. I will get some pictures up soon. I think these will work.?.?

Those are what you want, and IMHO that's a great price. I think I paid $60 each for a pair (NIB) several years ago.
