Gear Ratio?

Makes sense that equals out to 3:07,... dammit that means front and rear diff swap,..

 

Well looks like its gonna be a grand rear and XJ Front

That's a good idea as well I was thinking the D44 or even 35 from the grand for the rear disk brakes but I can adapt those over after. I will do some shopping at my friends junkyard this week to see what's available :)

 

Any recommendations are very welcome!

ZJ D35 disc brakes are very easily adapted to an 8.25". The center hole just needs to be enlarged from 2.75" to 3" to fit over the larger axle tube. After that it will bolt up to the 8.25" flange without further mods.

Not to hijack this, but it's the same topic.

 

Where at are these numbers you're talking about.

 

I haven't done more than draining and refilling axles. I want to find out more about gearing so I'm more comfortable swapping things around.

 

I've got the 2.5 with a man 4spd and 45 is about the fastest i can comfortably take it. I can hit 60 but I'd never run it that fast for over 20 seconds or so.

 

Whatever this gearing is, its great for low speed, got lots of low end power. but its horrible for the highway. Makes driving a town or two over to get CL stuff a pain.

if you don't want to pop the cover, you can jack up one rear tire, put the truck in neutral, then rotate the tire around exactly twice while counting the number of times the driveshaft spins.

Can the gear ratio be determined be the gear set stamping?

 

Mine is stamped 02 01 89 DANA D 42717 B3L298 40 13

 

Divide those last two numbers and you get your ratio:(as shown from my Dana 44 front):

2.5 with a4 speed manual should have had 3.55 from the factory. Sounds like you're geared a lot lower than that. I'm guessing 4.56.
