Looking for a rust free SWB comanche

Like the title says I'm looking for a rustfree shortbed comanche. In a perfect world I would like a 91-92 4.0 5speed 4wd but thats not very likely. The truck I'm looking for has to be a shortbed and rustfree. I would prefer a 4.0 with a 5speed but will consider anything if the body is in the condition I'm looking for. Doesnt need to be 4wd and can need some work I'm just tired of patching rust. I'm in PA but am willing to travel as long as the truck is right and the owner is willing to work with me on the pickup date. If the truck is reliable enough to drive home that would be great. If not i can flat tow it or get a tow dolly. I'm looking on other classified ads but i would really like to buy from someone on CC who would know what there looking at and would be honest about the condition. My price range depends on the truck but I have money and am willing to pay a fair price.

Good luck man. your best best bet is to look in back yards or by word of mouth.. I been looking for one for 3 years an just got a 88 Sportruck 2wd with a bad engine. truck has close to zero rust an scored it for 150 bucks!

Thanks and good score (wanna sell it :D ) Believe me I look everywhere and tell everyone I know to watch for them. PA is a rusty state that hates jeeps with a passion and most of the backyard trucks here are there for a reason. I got my last almost rustfree truck in a frontyard buried in snow for $300 but it came from SC. I'm not really expecting to find something close to me in the condition I want. Just hoping to get some good leads form honest people who know what there talking about. I drove 400mi one way to buy the 91 4.0 sport truck of my dreams from a guy who seemed honest only to find out the frame was bent from what looked like a day before I got there joyride.

How far you looking to travel to get it? Heading south might be your best option, get out of the states that salt their roads for winter time.

There are a couple of listings in VA, they don't say much in the listing but might be worth shooting them an email and seeing if its any good.

Thanks allot for the links I missed those ones somehow. I'm actually looking for a southern truck and would drive pretty far for the right one. Rust free and PA don't go well together. I really don't wanna go farther than mabey 500mi but for the right truck who knows. Its hard to find the right truck and the right seller when they're that far away. People don't know what to look at for rust or don't feel like looking. And I gotta find someone who will hold on to it long enough for me to come down to get it.

I found one, so there is one less guy to compete against. :brows: Don't worry, it isn't very pretty, but rotten it is not.[/quote

Well at least one of us got one. Now find me one :D. I tried getting ahold of the guy with that eliminator you told me about like 100 times without hearing a work from him then he dropped the ad.

i've got a solid one here on long island NY, but it needs some attention here and there. 4x4 and rust free generally don't go together in the north east  .

I know that very well thats why it says in the ad I am willing to travel and it doesnt need to be 4wd. Rust free is the big ticket. I can do a 4wd swap no problem I'm just looking for the right body. Could you give me some specifics on your truck? Engine, trany, mileage, what attention does it need? Are the floors, rockers, cab corners and bed good? What are you askinkg for it?

here are some pics:

the truck is rough and solid at the same time. solid in the sense that structurally it is rust free. rough in the sense that it is not pretty and needs TLC. its probably worth more in parts than whole. during the winter i was willing to take a lot less, but now i am back up to $800 price. looking at the price of rears, seat brackets, tail gate, tail lights, etc + scrap the rest, i feel this is reasonable.

it starts and runs every time, 4wd works, needs LOTS and LOTS of tlc, it leaks everything, radiator is shot engine, engine bay and frame rails are covered in oil, ac-delete truck, heat works, d44 rear, bucket seats but the interior is trashed.

let me know what you think.

The cab actually looks pretty solid. The bed doesnt look shot but its obviously got some rust. Have you ever pulled the carpets up to check the floors over? What I can see of the floors looks solid in the pictures but you never really know till you look under the carpet.

I'm gonna pass. The trucks worth it but Long Island is like 350mi from me and I don't wanna drive that far not knowing the condition for sure. I think I'm gonna hold out for a southern truck. Thanks allot for letting me know about it and good luck with the sale.
