flyn2er Posted January 17, 2011 Posted January 17, 2011 Has anyone build a storage box for behind your seats. I'm wanting to build something for tools and such. Any help would be appreciated.
ejndssn Posted January 17, 2011 Posted January 17, 2011 they don't have our trucks let alone the mid size trucks you can get some  from this site for starters http://www.duhabins.com/chevy/1989-chevy-regular-cab-truck-storage.php
SW86 Posted January 17, 2011 Posted January 17, 2011 hey that box is pretty cool ^^^^ my truck came with this thing hung behind the seat with three rows of pockets on it. it was pretty cool but not original.
kyleag89 Posted January 17, 2011 Posted January 17, 2011 If you are handy why not custom build something out of metal, or even wood then cover or paint it? If you still have the bench seat there is plenty of room back there. When I swapped to buckets I lost a lot of storage room behind them. I am now forced to use a toolbox in the bed for my straps, tow chain, and random tools.
flyn2er Posted January 17, 2011 Author Posted January 17, 2011 I have a 1/2 sheet of 3/4" birch plywood that i'm going to build a box out of. Probably use something like this to lock it up. http://www.mcmaster.com/#drawer-locks/=amu5v9 Drivers side will hold fire extinguisher and tools and fluids on the passenger side. I took a day off work tomorrow i'll try to get it started.
91coMANche Posted January 17, 2011 Posted January 17, 2011 Please don't spend $160+ for a plastic box. There has to be a substantially better way to spend $160+.
flyn2er Posted January 19, 2011 Author Posted January 19, 2011 I'm making progress, still need to get the lid and lock on. :D I'm taking it back out to seal it up and bondo, i'll take pics of the build then. [img][/img]
87Chief Posted January 19, 2011 Posted January 19, 2011 ^how did you mount it? Well how are you going to? I want to do something like this also... Want to give me some measurements? :) thanks
btm24 Posted January 20, 2011 Posted January 20, 2011 Could you build me a speaker box for a 10" sub? :brows: Brandon
btm24 Posted January 20, 2011 Posted January 20, 2011 Man that would be so nice if you could tho :( anyways if you don't want a bed tool box because it takes up to much room or what ever, why don't you go with a truck wheel well tool box? I have seen a few and they are rly nice and don't take up much room. Here is a pic of what one would look like: Brandon
flyn2er Posted January 20, 2011 Author Posted January 20, 2011 Not sure what i'm doing with the bed yet. I have 6 - 4x4 sheets of alum. diamond plate here to make just about anything as long as it has something to do with wheelin' and camping. I like this idea for the spare tire.
btm24 Posted January 20, 2011 Posted January 20, 2011 that looks rly nice but I have a tool box where your tire is lol Brandon
johnj92131 Posted January 20, 2011 Posted January 20, 2011 Has anyone build a storage box for behind your seats. I'm wanting to build something for tools and such. Any help would be appreciated. Wen I did my bucket seat conversion I had the upholstery shop at a large pocket to the seat back. Makes a good place to store documents, books and the like. Depending on what tools you want to carry around, a tool bag can make a lot of sense. For larger tools, try a bigger bag. Also, don't forget about the under the seat storage space. It makes a good place to stash a plactic box with a whole set of sockets, ratchets, screw driver bits etc. You see the 99 tools in a plastic storage box kit all over the place for cheap money. A wood box can be made easily with just a hand saw, an electric drill and some wood screws. But it really depends oon what you want to store in the box. I like a bag over a box because I can buy a bag in most sizes. Have seen and do not like the large thing with multiple pockets that hangs under the rear window.
