I am needing another windshield replaced on the Truck. I am also sick of the "shiny" molding that goes over the windshield cause I get leaks when they come to me to replace it vs. taking it in. Is there a rubber molding alternative like we have on the back window???

yanking out the glass and reinstalling it. and pulling MJ glass without breaking it can be a real challenge. :(

you sure pete?

the chrome trim will come right out without damaging the windshield seal, i would assume the rubber on the late model is the same way, it should just pop in around the glass.

i'd wait for some definite proof first though :D this is only hearsay

maybe. my memory sucks. :( I was under the impression the the gasket pretty much goes in and around the glass like a gasket rather than just being a beauty trim. I'm sure someone that's done it will chime in.

The 97+ window seal has a channel that is glued to the edge of the glass. After the glue sets up the glass is glued to the flange in the body of the truck.

Hey I'm having a windshield done today and hoping they are going to just upgrade the seal around it. I will find out what the glass company did when i get out of work. I will let everyone know whAtthey did later on.

I'm waiting to get mine install and if you wanna take out the trim go ahead

you slide it 1/4'' then it pops out with a little bit of help

the newer 96 rubber strip is like any other windshield its only a trim that fills the gap around after they have install the glass

if you are a purist they can also reinstall the old chrome trim

I am also planning on doing this the next time I get a new windshield. I think it is a little more involved though, I thought there was some tabs inside the groove there that need to be cut off.

not sure you need to cut them but I did it on mine when i was fixing the windshield frame so no going back for me

but guys on naxja with earlier xj's all do it its a better seal for water
