500 MJ Posted November 29, 2010 Posted November 29, 2010 We're in the market for a used car for my fiance and I've found myself looking at XJ's. I'm wondering if the MPG ratings were significantly different for the 2wd versions. I've found a '97/2wd/Auto that I am interested at looking into further. http://wausau.craigslist.org/cto/2082632473.html I can't stand working on the '96 Honda Passport she has now, its time to start looking...
kyleag89 Posted November 29, 2010 Posted November 29, 2010 My 94 XJ 2wd gets excellent gas mileage. I just drove from MD to MA to visit family and got a little over 350 miles to a tank. I'm lucky to see 250 miles a tank in my MJ.
tbrand Posted November 29, 2010 Posted November 29, 2010 I don't know about mileage, but that would be a $4-5k XJ here in AZ. For some reason, their perceived value is quite inflated.
500 MJ Posted November 29, 2010 Author Posted November 29, 2010 Thats really something. 4wd is an upgrade here because of the snow and all the woods/backroads. Its so easy to change one over though that I am not afraid of buying a 2wd, and really I could just leave it that way for the easy winters here.
JeepcoMJ Posted November 30, 2010 Posted November 30, 2010 good price, but I'd be trying to get around $800 off of it. after all, it is 2wd and we do live in wisconsin... my 97/4.0/5 speed/4x4 got 22.5mpg average. that thing should be right around there. to be honest, I'd be converting it to 4x4, too...safety first.
mvusse Posted November 30, 2010 Posted November 30, 2010 My 96 2wd 4.0/auto gets 22-24mpg on the highway. 17mpg mixed driving.
kyleag89 Posted November 30, 2010 Posted November 30, 2010 Paid $900 for mine perfect condition fully loaded for a country, and picked up a 92 4x4 for $250 so I have my 4x4 swap parts. Haven't put them in yet though.
ComancheKid45 Posted November 30, 2010 Posted November 30, 2010 I'm starting to look for XJs for my girlfriend as well.....Ford Rangers are a mechanics nightmare
Suuperman Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 I had a '99 2wd 4.0 5spd. Got 18 mixed and 21 hwy. I had a '99 2wd 2.5 5 spd. Got 20-22 mixed. Got 25+ hwy
