First Comanche

Recommended Posts

Hello all, new to the form but not to new to wheelin'. I have owned several Jeeps including 3 YJ's and 2 XJ's but I recently bought my first MJ. I loooooooove this truck! I got it on the cheap so it needs a few things LOL! I have a few questions if anyone can help. #1. How interchangable are MJ and XJ body parts (or any driveline parts) of the same year (ie: doors, fenders, bumpers etc....)? #2. Anyone have any lift and tire size advice, it would be greatly welcomed.

1st of all let me say welcome to the club :wavey: Most every thing can be changed out. there are a range of years you may use to part out for your truck. lifts is not somthing that will fit your truck out of a xj. also there are no body lifts just suspension lifts. Hellcreek.com is a good company to go with they use rough county parts with a few add on's. they also give a %10 discount for comanche club members. what do you plan on using your truck for? 31" tires will fit on stock suspension. a 4.5" lift will be good with 33" tires and 6" is ok for 35's. a 6" lift is about twice as much as a 4.5" lift. I hope that the info that i could give you was a help

Cool,

Thanks for the info guys. I'm livin' on an Island so not to much mud boggin' lol! More rockcrawlin' (not to extreme) and mountian/loggin' road climbin'. I'm thinkin' 4.5" would be ok with 31's/33's. I should get fairly decent articulation for crawlin'? :dunno: So fenders and doors are same size on both XJ and MJ (88-92)?

Cheers,

Dave :Canadaflag:

i don't know any thing about rockcralin so i can't really say. if you go 33's you may want to look into some fender flair trimming to get a full flex but :dunno: and yes fenders etc fit 88-96 i think. glad i was a help :D

To be more precise, XJ's an MJ's are virutally the same from the cab forward. Front suspension components WILL work from an XJ, but the leafs on an MJ are longer, and as stated before are spring under. Also, 31's will fit on a 4x4 on stock wheels with some minor lower control arm rubbing at full lock, its questionable for 2x4's. A stock truck with aftermarket wheels and 31's will rub the fenders/flares and require cutting, or some sort of lift in the front.
