Column to floor shift

Just as the title states.. Is adding a floor shift to an MJ a hard task? I want to eliminate the ol granny shift on the column.

Standard or auto? Get a XJ donor and it's do able. I don't think MJ ever had a standard column shift. Use the 'search' there's several write ups on converting the auto.

Going that way is a piece of cake, but I'd really miss the extra real estate the floor shifter takes

You need a new column, shifter cable, shifter, and the transmission tunnel plate under the floor shifter.

 

 

Then a non-column shift full gauge cluster.

 

 

Grab it all from the same xj in the junk yard. Any year from 87 to 94

Except that '87-'90 used the mechanical speedo and '91-'94 used the electronic speedo, so to replace the one in your truck without the PRNDL window you'll need the type that matches the year of your MJ.

Correct. I figured that that would be common sense so I didn't elaborate. The rest of the parts can come from an 87 to 94

I have a 92 XJ doner and I already have the full guage package without the shift indicator. Thanks guys :thumbsup:

You will have to pull the seats and carpet to do it btw...unless you're ok with cutting the carpet. And that cluster better be out of close to the same year truck or it won't work

O I already installed the cluster months ago.. I also installed the floor shifter a few days ago. :chillin:

I haven't had a column shift in 20+ years (last one was a straight six 74' Javelin I had in the 1980's),

but I'm loving the column shift in my 'Grandpa Jeep' .

 

Except for every time I drive the (98) XJ, and almost tear the wiper switch off the column trying to shift into drive. :doh:

I bet someone here would want it (I'd buy it if you were closer :yes: ).

Yeah. I'll be looking for another one soon for my '83 J10 with 4.6 stroker and AW4/NV241 OR (4:1 from a Rubicon)
