Hey guys, so a guy at work is sick of working on his cherokee and is thinking of selling it. It is an 86 4 wheel drive with the 2.8 and auto tranny. :ack: He says it doesn't run and he thinks it is the fuel pump that went out, but I don't want to put too much weight on that as I don't think he's very mechanical. I am going to try to get him to let me tinker around a little with it. He also says the 4 wheel drive doesn't work, says it won't engage, and he thinks its a vacuum issue as it used to work then he had a rebuilt tranny put in it and now it doesn't work. All in all it looks like a descent 4 door cherokee and I wouldn't mind having another 4 wheel drive around. He is thinking he just wants a couple hundred for it, I'm thinking of offering him 200, what do you think?

VERY easy to test if it is fuel related... shoot a little starter fluid into it.. if it starts and runs until the starter fluid is gone, its fuel related.

I think the fuel pump mounts to the side of the engine on the 2.8... mechanical pump... shouldnt cost too much to replace either if thats the problem. I'm not sure what TC they used on the autos besides the NP228, and if its a vac issue with that it could get a little hairy, as the 228 was vacuum actuated from a switch in the cab, though only the higher up models got the 228. Trans should be the A904... a light duty version of the TF727 Chysler has used forever. Sounds like it should be a good one to get going right, and $200 sounds good too!

$200 seems like a pretty good price to haul it off for him.

Personally I wouldn't haul off a 2.8 for anything less than $500, but I have standards.
