2 comanches

Recommended Posts

hey everybody I'm new to this board but i got a situation

i have 2 manches

one is a 91 h.o. straight 6 long bed 2 wheel drive 5 speed

the other is an 88 straight 6 short bed 2 wheel drive 5 speed

both have some problems

the 91 has 300,000 miles on it and someone who did the last timing chain replacement did the gasket wrong on the timing chain cover so now it leaks oil considerably fast.

the 88 has 140,000 miles on it and is either got some wiring issues or needs a fuel pump I'm not sure. i can't hear the fuel pump prime when i turn the key to on and it will just crank and crank, but if you dump some fuel into the intake and try to start it it starts right up so i know it has some fuel pump issues

i want to know which one i should spend my time on because i have most of the parts to make on of the trucks four wheel drive.

opinions?

91 long bed or 88 short bed? :???:

on the 88, might be the ballast resistor located on the DS inner fender. A little white block with with 2 wires running into it. Run a jump wire, bypassing the resistor, and if it starts, than put a new one in.

Oh, and if it were me i would fix both and have 2 jamminz.gif

A lot of people prefer to wheel the short beds vs. the long beds.

I had an intermittent fuel pump issue a few years ago and it was the wiring connector near the E-brake. I pulled the pump, checked it by running 12v to it and it pumped, so I moved on to the wiring.

Welcome, how long have you had the MJs and where are you located? And definitely KEEP BOTH MJs!!!

haha well i tried to jump the ballast resistor and now the feul pump makes a loud clank noise but still isnt fully priming

it seems like it primes a little because it gives the motor enough fuel to kind of start up and sputter a little but still not fully primed and not constant fuel..

but today found and pick up yet ANOTHER manche.

found a 89 straight 6 long bed 5 speed 4 wheel drive for 400 bucks

frame is shot on this manche

the rear leaf spring hangers rusted completely out and when the guy i bought it from was driving it one day the spring mounts broke completely away from the frame and cause the rear axle to shift back and popped the driveshaft out of the transfer case

truck only has 170,000 miles on it and runs great

so i was thinking of putting the 4 wheel drive parts on my 91 long bed and keeping the motor from the 89 as a spare and using a couple other miscellaneous body parts from the 89 and then junking the rest of it

hopefully now i have enough parts to make a real nice 4 wheel drive long bed and a really nice 4 wheel drive short bed

ill post pictures later on and you guys tell me what you think
