Fuel Pump - What is a good brand for replacement? - update

Recommended Posts

IT appears my fuel pump has finally died after 20 years, or at least I think so... It's was losing power on my last trip home; as it felt like it wasn't getting enough gas and wasn't making it's usually loud noise.

What brands, what should I be looking for in a quality replacement? Yes, I’ve read through a few of the older pump threads, but didn't find an answer to my question. :help: THANKS

I have herd this too, the last time I just took both and used the correct one and returned the other. I cannot remember the differences. Could be 4cyl/6cyl. Some applications in the parts books are vague in the after market.

My complaint as well as the OP's I'm guessing. Is the longevity of the pumps. They simply do not last. Its not a awful job in the MJ, but its no walk in the park. Considering the stock pump usually lasts twenty + years and the aftermarket crap usually doesn't make it to its 2 or 3 birthday. That's not so good... The aftermarket pumps are about 75- 100$ and the stocker is almost 400$ its not a surprise most go with the aftermarket. Especially seeing a name like BOSCH as the manufacturer. But its a false sense of security, these pumps simply do not last like the NOS parts.

What "factory part"? The service guy at the Jeep dealership said there wasn't one. I'm confused.

I think you need a new "jeep service guy", LOL :brows: :brows:

The OEM fuel pump is now “DISCONTINUED”. Looks like all YOU have to choose from is the aftermarket pumps. I just found the LAST two (2) OEM Pumps, one in CA and the other was in NY, and yes I bought one!

Thanks for all the feedback!

Cracker,

At this page, on the left, click fuel system. Then fuel supply and finally fuel pump. This will get you a 2.5, 4.0, 4.2 and a 5.9l pumps.

The thing is they are all listed under a 1990 Jeep Comanche??? :???:
