Automan2164
You need a torque wrench on main caps. It's crucial. Autozone and them don't lend torque wrenches because its more of a precision tool. Doing it without one could do major permanent damage to your engine. And don't use anything besides a brass drift or punch. If you use steel, you can nick or mar the surfaces of the crank journal, and have a bad situation. The rear main is not something you can half @$$. Rob L. SW86
true. i won't do it today then, along with the pan until i get all the tools. its just too humid out there anyway. i did however do some easy stuff. here you go since i havent been snappin any lately. ready for the por-15, after some prep of course but ill do that when the por arrives. there are two holes that go all the way through, ones right next to my tools there and the other on the other side in the same spot. drain holes maybe? is there a plug i can get somewhere or just rig something? plus there was moisture under the seat carpet..quite a bit actually. no rust though. i seriously suggest you take a look in yours. front bumper is gone, on the look out for a winch one. also that little round thing on the inside of the bumper, theres a prefect hole already there for you to screw it into until the relocation of the whole thing. here's a better pic only one screw will work but really thats all you need if you tighten it down good. I'm sure most of you already knew that little trick though. where did some of you guys move yours to?
ComancheKid45
Thats currently where mine is also.....alot of people relocate it un the hood somewhere ;)
SW86
got a lot done today. finally got the pan off after removing only the sway bar, shocks, steering damper, oil pump, starter and bottom bell housing cover. it wasnt that much work :fs1:. the gasket on the pan was the original and hard as hell to get off. the oil pan had little to no sludge in it. there was a small layer on the very bottom thats it! cleaned it with steel wool and purple power cleaner i think its called. worked great. painted the pan along with both diff covers. pics coming tomorrow for sure. the front diff was half oil and half mud. the rear was straight old @$$ oil. no metal shavings in either. in fact all the gears looked like new :chillin: . I'm hitting the rear main seal tomorrow since i bought a torque wrench and brass punch. its like one day you hate the f-ing thing and the next everything starts moving along good. freakjeep93
yes ive definetly found that if your getting pe ohed at something and you don't need it done that day its better to just walk away for a day and when you came back everything will be better
SW86
FINALLY, got the oil pan gasket right. all this time it was a piece of the origianl gasket stil stuck on the RMS cap. :fs1: as soon as i peeled that off it went smoothly. hope it doesnt drip tomorrow for the test run. anyway i did a few little things, nothing really worthy of an update but screw it. took off the bed rails and out came the tool box. don't know if i like it without them or not. might throw in the tool box just to give it a see or maybe paint the rails black idk. the painted diff cover and oil pan (now with scratches). i also painted up a cheapo steering damper to match as well, with a little something added to it. just have to get him put back together first hopefully itll be awhile before it sees those jack stands again. at least until my lift goes on anyway. i should be picking up some 31 intercos sometime this weekend or next week. if i can hold off on those ill buy the 4.5 hell creek lift first but now i have to fix a god damned cooler line.... does it ever end. ha! didnt get to the POR yet but everything is ready. come on you northerners, blow some of that cool air down here again! its just too damn humid out there

SW86
its cool if you hijack. got to learn somehow  anyway i got on the POR. two coats on the drivers and one on the pass. even did a little on the tranny hump in the cab. I'm going out there to finish up the inside today. i couldnt get that textured look where i took off the side trim. i guess they used a spray gun. oh well. itll be dirty most of the time anyway :D. trimmed the front fenders as much as i wanted to deal with that dremel. which was not much  it looks alright. shiny for just black. i wonder what the gloss black would of looked like steering damper! i messed up a few letters but hey two minutes of work, thats not bad. threw on a coat of clear too before and sort of after kinda thing. which looks better to you guys? no tool box/bed rails or with? havent done much else. fixed the cooler line but now a coolant hose is leaking. i just had to do a burn out :headpop:
ComancheKid45
Did you just apply POR-15 to the rockers/lower body? It looks great now but POR-15 is not UV resistant and a few days in the sun will have it dull and grey in no time, its a great sealer coating but needs a top coat or either bedliner or paint to seal the deal.
SW86
yeah, i just put two coats on each side over the original liner around the bottom and rear fender flares. whoever owned it before put bedliner in the bed and along the top of the bed to. I'm not going to go over that though. on a side note, i just put a first coat in the cab a few minutes ago. looks good. ill prolly go buy some paint to throw on top but who knows when thatll be :dunno:
SW86
havent updated in awhile. trying to keep my progress on the DL. :dunno: should of taken more pics, a LOT more but oh well. i guess when your on a roll working, you don't think about it as much. ill post what ive got later also i did apply more POR15 to the underside of the cab when i did all that. id suggest buying the gallon though
SW86
alright so, i finished the inside. three coats of POR. i didnt paint over it with anything but I'm not worried. window tint is in the near future anyway trimmed and painted both front fenders to my liking. i repainted that last side, so thats out dated now finaly, i bought the 4.5 rough country/hell creek lift. didnt get a picture of the springs. which i should of taken a few photos of me taking off the bottom load leaf and the difference between the two, with and without. it really is about an inch difference. i could take pics of them now but the lift is already on. no pics of that cause my batteries are dead in the camera. ill take care of that tomorrow though ;) one last photo of the stock manche
SW86
i was digging for about thirty minutes and luckly found two batteries that worked. so here you go pic whores! stock control arm vs. rough country 4.5 in the sky its slightly leaning to the drivers side. don't know why. any thoughts anyone???? its only in the front, the rear end is level. rear set up, went with the one inch mark on the lift shackles to make up for the leaf spring i took off. front setup rough country sway bar discos soon to be installed rough country extended lines overall pretty easy install. can't say enough for Hell Creek customer serivce or the quailty of the springs. great  I'm sure Tom got tired of seeing my emails rolling in but he answered every one asap and sent out my order as fast as he could. (prolly so id stop emailing lol) on the other hand rough country was good too but lacking compared to HellCreek. they did take care of me and my bent track bar issue but it took quite a few calls. thank god i live only hours away so my stuff got here in a day. the kit is good too. seems to be pretty tuff. however the coils came in silver which i wasnt happy about but hey they got painted anyway so f**k it. i did have to bend my hardline in the rear so id have slack in the brake line. havent mounted it up right only with zip ties but they seem to hold just fine. if anybody has any ?s or would like photos ill be glad to help. I'm going to post a pic of me next to it just so you can get a ride height idea. its a decent height to me, now only if i had 33s on there lol
Automan2164
Looks great. This is the kit I will be getting when the time comes, except with adjustable arms. Rob L.
Comanche County
Looks good brother,,,,maybe I missed it, but how's your driveshaft length after the lift?
SW86
thanks guys  i seriously am thinking about getting some adjustable ones. you know whats good? the drive shaft length seems fine, i wouldnt go any higher though. the front is good and could go more but the rear couldnt handle much more. TrailReadyMJ
Looking good man! If you don't plan on changing ride height again, and your pinion/caster angle is good, you really have no need for adjustable CAs at this time. Now you just need some bumpers ;)
SW86
thanks. I'm also thinking about throwing on some ACOS spacers. raise that front end a little more. after that I'm sure ill have to get some :chillin: and yeah bumpers would be nice. glad ive got a guy helping me out with that
SW86
not a huge update but it feels good to be able to turn full lock now easiest mod ive done so far. the stock lines would of been fine if i lowered them an inch or so but hey when in rome right. havent taken it to the shop yet, but come tuesday ill have new exhuast, steering aligned and radiator flushed. i adjusted my steering wheel after i did the brakes. thats another EASY thing to do. SW86
another small update. diff guard! its not quite what i was expecting. i figured it'd be taller and a tighter fit but for less than a hundy, i guess its okay. ill throw some rocks and logs at it and i'll go from there opinion wise. right now though, I'm not happy too with it. SW86
finally got some tires update!! bought the BFG KM2 31s from 4wheelparts. the cheapest place to buy them with the free shipping deal going on now. took three days to get mine and of course,,,,, i had to try them out! :clapping: it did have A LOT more mud but most fell off driving in the rain. oh well. performance wise these did great! hell half the time i was in 2wd but put it in 4-hi to get more mud flinging . also played in some sand while out and they did great again. i was sliding all over that stuff lol. as far as flex room they tuck very well. i get some rub on the backs but the front doesnt rub at all. of course i havent "put it through the paces" with the rough stuff yet but it handled the light stuff with ease.
