sinkrun
Just bought a 98 caravan for my bussiness the hatch would not open. We did manage to pop it open thru the hole on the inside lubed some spots adjusted the rod works great now. But I need to get the lock cylnder out its is frooze up. We finaly got the plastic bolt that I believe is what you need to remove to get the handle out but it just spins. Any suggestions?
Geonovast
When I bought my 99 XJ, the lock cylinder for the hatch was frozen up too. Not sure what part of it was, but I doused the key in PB, stuck in it, and took it out. Repeated 4 or 5 times, had to redo it again the next day, but it's been fine since. jpdocdave
the lock cylinder should be held on by a clip from the inside. its just a u shaped clip that slides around it and holds it in. but most of them can be saved with penetrating oil.
whowey
My 99 Caravan did the same thing... disassembled it all.. lubed and cleaned it all and it has now worked problem free for three or four years.
Pete M
make sure you guys also lube the lift struts. One of them stuck a bit on my 97 and it ended up snapping off the lower mounting stud on the body. NOT an easy fix. :(
